Dr. Taylor welcomed our new staff members to the Cardinal Hill family this week in their new hire class. We are blessed to have such a close knit team and our patients receive the biggest benefit, when we work together.
We want to thank our wonderful housekeeping staff that has kept us safe during COVID-19 and improves patient satisfaction daily with small gestures. Shelia is showing how she folds towels for the sinks in patient rooms to add a little cheer to their day.

Charles and Nellie Anness have been married for 71 years. They met at a high school baseball game and were married on Sept. 3, 1949. They had a daughter together and adopted two boys. On a recent trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the couple contracted COVID-19 while attending a church service. They were diagnosed and quarantined at home. With worsening symptoms, they were both admitted to Baptist Hospital for treatment where they were unable to see each other for 10 days.
As they improved, they were accepted to Cardinal Hill for inpatient rehabilitation and reunited. They spent 16 days at Cardinal Hill working very hard to gain back their independence. On Tuesday, Oct. 27, the couple discharging home together. Their love and dedication to one another has been evident throughout their recovery here.

By the second week in the hospital battling COVID-19 and pneumonia, Lafayette Johnson’s lungs collapsed, and his kidneys were shutting down. He had to be placed on a ventilator. By the fourth week, he had a heart attack and was placed on a second life support. When he finally woke up, he was extremely weak.
“COVID-19 devastated every muscle in my body, and I was in a hospital bed for five months,” he said. “I lost 57 pounds and wasn’t even able to stand up. I didn’t give up—even after dying twice. I came back.”
