Dr. Carol Sherman is a thoracic medical oncologist with a primary focus on lung cancer. She also treats other thoracic malignancies including mesothelioma and thymic malignancies. Her clinical responsibilities include participation in the thoracic multidisciplinary clinic as well as several other outpatient clinics at the Hollings Cancer Center. She also provides care at the Hollings Cancer Center outreach clinics in North Charleston and East Cooper. She actively participates in clinical trials and serves as the institutional principle investigator for a number of thoracic clinical trials. Her inpatient responsibilities include serving as an oncology inpatient attending and an oncology consult attending., Dr. Sherman has been active in administrative roles as well, serving as the medical director of the Hollings Cancer Center from 1998 to 2007. She served as the interim chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology from 2004 to 2007. She continues to serve on numerous committees within the Hollings Cancer Center and the Department of Medicine, including the Data Safety Monitoring Committee, the Protocol Review Committee, and the Promotions and Tenure Committee.
