If you’re age 65 and older, and you have basic Medicare insurance, you may need to pay additional premiums to get the level of coverage you want. The premiums can be costly, especially if you’re married and both you and your spouse are paying them. But there may be a silver lining: You may qualify for a tax break for paying the premiums. However, it can be difficult to qualify to claim medical expenses on your tax return. For 2020, you can deduct medical expenses only if you itemize deductions and only to the extent that total qualifying expenses exceeded 7.5% of adjusted gross income. HEALTH INSURANCE SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD OPEN FEB. 15 - MAY 15!!!
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government has reopened the exchange insurance market for enrollment from Feb. 15 – May 15, 2021. Currently, it is estimated that 15 million Americans lack insurance and are eligible for Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage. Many are eligible for free or reduced-cost coverage.
Consumers who are eligible for an ACA health insurance plan and are not currently covered by a health insurance plan may enroll during the three-month window. Additionally, current enrollees will be able to change to any available plan in their area without restriction to the same level of coverage as their current plan.
