“Purpose, Promise, Hope for a Better Tomorrow” is the root of our shelter services. Watch this video produced by Kyle Dyer, about the Women’s Emergency Shelter at the Denver Coliseum and our staff’s response to provide services during the pandemic. “We’re at the Coliseum right now, which has been the temporary home for up to 300 women,” said Mike Sinnett, VP of Shelters and Community Outreach, in the video. “I’m Debra and I was the very first person to walk through this door, and I was the very first bunk to be assigned,” explains Debra, a guest of the shelter, in the video. “I do believe that Catholic Charities has been quite a life saver for so many women, including myself.”
Thankful Thursday is dedicated to our special friends of Guadalupe Community Center in Greeley-Steve and Coleen Carrico! 💙These wonderful humanitarians have been instrumental in the success of Guadalupe Community Center and have given their time, treasure and talent for more than 10 years! 💙They have supported those facing homelessness especially in Weld County. 💙 In addition to being cherished benefactors each year, they enthusiastically push up their sleeves and volunteer their services to keep GCC looking great. 💙Recently, they painted the reception area and dining room. This week new chairs and table arrived to freshen up the lobby. One of our residents said, “The entrance to the Shelter now feels so peaceful.” This is a remarkable statement from a resident who was terribly abused and victimized. 💙 Blessings to our friends, Steve and Coleen Carrico www.Guadalupecc.org #BelieveinHope #charity #lovethyneighbor

"I was a young mom on Medicaid. I was told that my baby had a Down Syndrome diagnosis, so I was given counseling for an abortion. They said, 'You can get rid of it.' I was naïve and asked, 'How can you get a baby that big out of you?' When she crudely explained what was done, I refused. At my delivery there were 7 doctors in the room, as the baby was considered at risk for cardiac problems, but she was born perfectly healthy. The best part of this story is this baby has [grown up and] graduated from Duke University and is now starting Med School in Rochester, NY." - Lynda Share this story and your belief in helping moms and saving babies during these final days before the election. Media including CBS4, 9NEWS (KUSA), FOX31 KDVR.com, the The Denver Post and other news outlets interviewed retired football player John Griffin as a truckload of 40,000 lbs of much-needed food was delivered for Catholic Charities of Denver and other nonprofits to help those experiencing hunger. Thank you to the #Black14's Mind, Body and Soul initiative and their partner the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who distributed truckloads of food to communities across the country this week. Read in the The Denver Post this story about John Griffin and the Black 14's donation in partnership with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that is feeding so many families this holiday. “There are going to be people Monday who had no idea what they were going to be able to eat,” Griffin said. “And come Tuesday and Wednesday, when stuff gets issued, they’ll know that they will be able to have Thanksgiving dinner. “Before I moved into Marisol Homes, I was living in a drafty camper with my 2-year-old son. We had an extension cord running into an auto shop. I was parked behind it for electricity and there was no running water. It was very cold, but it kept the snow and rain out. To top it off, I was pregnant with twins. From nine weeks pregnant, I knew one of the twins would not survive due to a birth defect. It was a very difficult and high-risk pregnancy. I felt completely hopeless. I had no job, a 2-year old to take care of and twins on the way. My children’s father was incarcerated, so I was on my own to take on all of this. I was scared. ... One day my mother found Marisol Homes and contacted them to explain my situation with hopes they would help shelter us. They were more than willing to interview me the following day over the phone. It took about a week to hear back, but they accepted me and my son. My oldest daughter later moved in with us. Marisol Homes was a godsend! If it wasn’t for them, I would have put my surviving daughter up for adoption and would have never got the footing I needed to get where I am today. They offered much needed counseling as well as many resources to help me get my life stable. We now live in a beautiful three-bedroom apartment and have no real concerns any longer. They helped clear a path for me by assisting with building my credit up, too. I can’t thank the staff and caseworkers enough for the life they have made possible for us! God bless you all!” - Candace Learn more about Marisol Homes, a ministry of Catholic Charities of Denver, at https://ccdenver.org/marisolservices. #believeinhope #facesofhope Marisol Women's Services
