Did you know regular visits to a knowledgeable hair stylist can be a good tool to detecting skin cancer? Changing or new moles on the scalp are sometimes impossible to see by yourself, but we often see patients who were referred to us by someone who cut their hair because he or she noticed something of concern. So tag your favorite hair stylist or barber in this post... and thank them for helping you detect skin cancer!
Did you know there are 4 different types of skin cancer? Learn about each at www.erikbhurst.com or pick up a free pamphlet at our offices. Educating yourself is the first step to keeping healthy! #skincancerawarenessmonth
Have you ever applied sunscreen to yourself or your child and you or your child STILL got sunburnt? Maybe your sunscreen was too old! The FDA requires that all sunscreens retain their original strength for at least three years. Throw out your sunscreen if it's expired or you're unsure how long you've had it. In the future, if you buy a sunscreen that lacks an expiration date, write the purchase date directly on the bottle so that you know when to toss it out.

Skin Cancer tip of the day: Did you know certain medications like retinoids, some antibiotics, and even ibuprofen can cause you to be especially sensitive to the sun? Make sure to wear sun protective clothing, sunscreen, and limit sun exposure when taking these medications.
Announcing new Saturday hours: In our effort to serve our patients even better, Nurse Practitioner Rich Sutherland, will be seeing patients the first Saturday of every month from 8-12:00 in our Martinsburg office.
