Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are potentially severe injuries resulting in instability of the affected knee. People who participate in high-intensity sporting activities are at a greater risk of injuring their ACL. An injured ACL is best treated surgically during which your surgeon will rebuild the injured anterior cruciate ligament. This can be performed in a minimally invasive fashion with an arthroscope and you may return to your active routine within a few months after surgery. At CFOSM, our goal is to provide state-of-the-art orthopedic and sports medicine services for each and every patient. For all appointments and inquiries, please call (703) 848-0800. Hip pain is quite common in athletes especially those who are into sports that involve extreme twisting and turning. The usual culprits of hip pain in athletes include overuse syndromes or a direct impact; however, other conditions such as osteoarthritis, bursitis, or impingement can also cause hip pain. If your pain or swelling does not improve in a few days, or if your pain interferes with your ability to perform daily activities, schedule an appointment with a hip specialist without delay. The physicians at CFOSM have provided outstanding service to patients in the Washington DC Metropolitan area since 1987. Serving Those Who Serve & Protect Responding to an emergency call, Bobby jumped from his cruiser and landing awkwardly on his left leg. His knee buckled, tearing the ACL and meniscus. He knew right away he had a serious injury. Since his was an on-the-job injury, Bobby would go through Workers Compensation for treatment and rehabilitation. He first checked the surgeons on the Workers Comp list and then asked a fellow officer for a recommendation. Bobby actually started therapy about 10 days after surgery and continued it for about four months before going back to full, active duty. “Just like with Dr. Chandra and his staff, the therapists at CFOSM were great. Of course, I wanted to get back on the job as fast as I could. I worked hard and the therapists pushed me – but never beyond what I needed or could handle. I got back to desk or light duty in about two weeks.” Several people have asked Bobby if he would go back to CFOSM if he ever needed to do so. “Well, yes,” he says. #testimonialtuesday #knee #kneesurgery #acl #cfosm #workerscomp #drrameshchandra

Taking care of a spouse or family member at home can be both emotionally and physically challenging. Meeting the physical demands of lifting, turning, and transferring a loved one can put both patient and caregiver at risk for injury. The most common injuries caregivers experience are to the back, neck, and shoulders, and are often caused by overuse — repeating the same lifting or pulling motions again and again. Using proper lifting techniques can help prevent injury. This article provides some general guidelines for lifting and transferring patients safely. The experts at the Center for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine are skilled in any injury of the back, neck and shoulders. For all appointments and inquiries, please call (703) 848-0800. Did you know that educated patients have better outcomes? A herniated disc, also called slipped disc or ruptured disc, is a condition caused from wear and tear of the cushioning discs present between the bones of the vertebral column. These discs act as shock absorbers while walking or running, and are made up of an outer tough layer (annulus) that surrounds a jelly-like center (nucleus). Disc herniation occurs when a part of the disc nucleus is pushed beyond the annulus through a rupture or tear. This displaced nucleus extends into the spinal canal, which passes through the entire vertebral column, and inflames and presses against the spinal nerves, causing pain. #disc #slippeddisc #herniateddisc #backinjury #spineinjury #education #cfosm YPO.EDUCATION Disc Herniation
