After being diagnosed with cancer, my wife made up her mind to 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘! Whether it was travel, philanthropy, our children, 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 meant many different things, not the least of which was health & running. She’s accomplished so much since that time, including hitting the coveted 5 years cancer free mark, but personally qualifying for the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻 was one of the true highlights of those accomplishments.
𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆! The boys and I would’ve run our 5K in Boston over the weekend. Family & friends from all over were booked in hotels throughout the city. Duck boat tours, restaurants, the Freedom Trail’s humbling reminders, planning out the same for Chicago & New York Marathons next … not to be, not this year.
Instead, here’s this incredible woman and our family at the finish line after she completed a “virtual” Boston Marathon last weekend. In over 100° Florida heat & humidity, joined by other runner friends as early as 6:30am (even me for a few miles awhile later), and supported with signs & cheers throughout our community every step of the way.
So many are going through so much this year, both physically & emotionally, and this isn’t intended to minimize any of that. I just hope, like Nicole, we can all find a way to take whatever our hand dealt and choose not to fold, because tomorrow *𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲* whatever we choose to step up and make it.
