Chris contacted us about her fish not feeling well. Looks like classic Ich.😕. Ich is a parasite which feeds on our pond fish all too often. The classic white spots we see, is the reaction of the fishes skin. To the fish it feels like a mosquito bite. Left untreated, the fish may spread Ich and can often die. This mild winter seems to have caused an uptick in fish stress. Ich is fairly easy to treat and the treatments are usually successful when the out break is caught in time.
So much beauty bursting to brighten your indoor space.

The flickering light is just the water bouncing off the fixture. The ice sculptures are great this time of year. Just make sure an ice damn doesn’t cause your pond to drain.

Although I thought we might miss all the cold weather this winter, Mother Nature had other plans. Take a minute to understand why we need to keep a hole in the ice during these cold periods.
I love the contrast of the blue koi against the white snow and a yellow glow from our path lights!
Well folks,Mother Nature has won this round of the winter battle. We had to turn off the pumps to the water fall; too many ice dams prevented the water from returning to the pond. Even our aeration holes needed to be re opened today, by adding water and dechlorinator. If you too are forced to turn off your pump be sure to disconnect the check valve if you have one. Tonight’s temps will cause them to burst otherwise.
Chalily will be closed today, Monday Feb.15. We will reopen on Tuesday at 10 am. You can use hot water to melt a hole in the ice!!!
This waterfall at Chalily has frozen over. The water is still flowing underneath and creating gas exchange. 7 degrees for the high today and several inches of snow coming soon will make for a long week. We have heaters / deicers and aeration in stock. Keep an opening in your pond for your fishes depend on the gas exchange!
Our production greenhouse operation overlooks the Missouri River. The ice flows from the recent old snap can be seen heading down the river today.
