Unfortunately, fake news has been brainwashing us. If you have not experienced an event through your own senses how do you know who to believe? The news stations understand how brains work. It is a business like any other business. The brain is wired for survival. It is designed to focus on the negative. The news media has an agenda, not to keep us informed, but rather conformed. They cause us to get entangled in the blame game, instead of unity. I am a Critical Care Nurse and I want to inform regarding my experience on the front line during this Covid19 pandemic. First of all, I want to say my hospital currently has Zero Critical Covid patients. This virus from my vantage point has changed and I do not know why? Did the lock down measures contain the virus, and perhaps weaken it? Were the peoples prayers answered? We are not where we were back in March and April of this year. I HAD NEVER IN MY 25 YEARS OF NURSING BEEN AS TERRIFIED TO GO TO WORK AS I WAS BACK THEN BECAUSE OF WHAT I WITNESSED. My first patient was only 36 years of age, he was Hispanic, moderately overweight with a history of Asthma. We tried desperately to save him, including administering the Hydroxychloroquine cocktail ,at the onset of this pandemic this was all we had as a potential treatment. Unfortunately the mortality rate was enormous. Many patients had been in their 50's as well as the elderly population, we were inundated with Critical Covid 19 patients. What kept me showing up to work at the hospital was the little voice inside telling me, "What if a loved one of yours was in need of nursing care?" The first 6 weeks was physically and emotionally draining. We heard the news outlets describe the deaths of Nurses and Doctors from the virus.The heros of Healthcare Nurses, Nures aides,Doctors, Environmental Service Workers we were up close and personal. We were labeled essential workers along with farmers, truck drivers, grocery store workers. While others were in the safety of their homes during a mandatory lock down. The hospitals and Doctors lost tremendous revenue during this lockdown, many nurses had to furlough because their nurse specialty was not needed all elective surgeries, and out patient services were suspended. Few Nurses and Doctors were willing to participate in a transfer and cross train to assist Critcal Care. The hospitals hired travel nurses to accommodate the high volume of Critical Covid patients. We the Nurses utilized face time and messenger so the families could have closure and see what we were seeing. We shed tears with them, as they pleaded for their loved ones to fight, or say their last good bye. We held the hands of the dying so they would not be alone. After the initial few months other treatment options became available Remdesivir, Convelecnt Plasma infusions, aggressive prone positioning the recovery process was long averaging about 3 weeks but our efforts were experiencing better outcomes. We started to emerge, there were less Critcal admissions. Why? Then started all the conspiracy theories. The virus is a hoax. The virus suddenly became a political issue instead of a virulent, contagious respiratory infection. The cover your mouth rule in effect for years to control a infectious respiratory contagion, became an anti mask movement. Massive distrust and suspicion, and ulterior motives took root. This is all negative and fear based. For our sanity and survival we need to promote unity. Turn off the News, break the addiction. Change the Channel and tune into unity.
