We would like to introduce you to the charming and handsome Gus Gus, a 3-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We met him in August when he came to see Dr. Klopp and our neurology team. An MRI and additional diagnostics revealed he had an atlantoaxial instability (AA). This condition occurs when there is instability between the first two vertebrae in the neck, resulting in compression of the spinal cord and neurologic signs. It is common in small breed dogs and can be a result of trauma, heredity, or a combination of both. Seven weeks after undergoing surgery to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord, Gus Gus is doing great! In addition to rechecks with Dr. Klopp, he is working with our Physical Rehabilitation team to regain his strength. The collaboration between our departments is just what the doctor ordered to help Gus Gus on his successful road to recovery! Simon is a patient of Dr. Renner with our Oncology Department and being treated for B cell lymphoma. He is also suspected of having a nerve sheath tumor on his left sciatic nerve. She is tremendously hard-working, good-natured, and is an irreplaceable member of the Internal Medicine team. She is a joy to work with and I can’t imagine the IM team without her!" --- Megan van Eeden, DVM, DACVIM (Internal Medicine) "Michelle has been with CVRC from the start. She is brilliant, compassionate, a team player, and goes above and beyond for her patient and clients. We are so lucky to have her on our CVRC team!" --- Eryn Sipling, Referral Relationship Manager Learn more about our excellence in Internal Medicine here. ➡️charlestonvrc.com/services/internal-medicine

Halloween is just a few days away! Here are some pet safety tips to keep in mind this year: 🎃 Do not feed your pet chocolate, raisins, grapes, or sugary treats. 🎃 Avoid costumes that could be ingested, cause choking, or restrict movement. 🎃 Be aware that doorbells, unfamiliar guests, and costumes may be extra spooky for pets. 🎃 With plenty of opportunities to escape, be sure that your pet has proper identification, and consider microchipping your pet. 🎃 Toxic food and treats are abound throughout Halloween. Be sure to keep them away from pets, and make sure your guests know to do the same. 🎃 Keep your pet inside to avoid harm from unintentional pranks. February is the month for love and we want to share some stories ‘from the heart’ in the coming weeks. Let’s begin by meeting Rage. Rage came to visit Dr. Jesty in our Cardiology Department after experiencing episodes of collapse. He was found to have a complete block in electrical conduction between the upper chambers of the heart (where heart rate and rhythm originate) and the lower chambers of the heart (which are responsible for pumping blood); this is called complete AV block, and it results in a very slow heart rate which causes collapse. His family elected for pacemaker implantation. Dr. Jesty performed this procedure in our Cath Lab the very same day. The procedure went well, and Rage went home with his family the next morning! Our cardiology team likes to refer to Rage as a lion, and his family reports he is more energetic and happy than he has been in quite some time!
Since May 2020, we have experienced a significant increase in emergency visits and our team is working tirelessly to devote the time that each patient requires for their particular condition. To help ensure that you understand the triage process - what it means and how it works - so you can rest assured that your pet will be given excellent medical care in an appropriate time frame - we've created the following presentation. We are grateful to you for choosing CVRC to care for you and your pet. Thank you!
Meet the fantastic duo, Oscar and Augie! Featured here with Lauren and Stephanie, Oscar and Augie have been patients of CVRC since 2014! They have been collaboratively treated by Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, and Critical Care over the years, making them very popular with our staff. Their family is determined to make sure they have the best care possible so they travel all the way from St. Helena Island to see us! We are honored to be worth the drive!
We are currently experiencing a telephone issue that is affecting some AT&T wireless customers. The glitch is giving random callers a ‘call cannot be completed as dialed’ message. While we are working with our provider to fix the issue, anyone who is affected is welcome to approach the front doors upon arrival for assistance, or text us at 843.614.8387. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Lucy is a 5 ½-year-old English Bulldog, and the cutest and sweetest petite girl! She began seeing Dr. Jaclyn Renner in our Oncology Department in June 2020 after being diagnosed with lymphoma. Lucy’s amazing and attentive family noticed enlarged lymph nodes and took her for an examination with her primary care veterinarian. Lucy's family opted to treat her lymphoma with the Gold Standard treatment called the CHOP method (AKA: University of Wisconsin Madison protocol), a 25-week protocol that rotates 3 different chemotherapeutics to "outsmart" the disease. By the third treatment, Lucy was in clinical remission, meaning we could no longer palpate her lymph nodes and she was feeling GREAT! Lucy graduated from treatment on December 1, 2020. She did a fantastic job and flew through with Bulldog pizzazz and determination! We are so happy that as of her last recheck on January 7th, she was still in remission and as sassy as ever. We love this little girl and are so happy to have her as part of the CVRC Oncology family! 🥰 🐶
