Jeff Veldhof is feeling thankful at Community Hospital North. June 5 at 12:54 AM · Indianapolis, IN · Prostate Cancer I just want to share how important it is to get an annual physical and to follow through after with the blood work. Thanks to Dr. David Blackwell (Chatham Care) and my nephew we detected mine. My nephew needed a physical to play football at Roncalli and I decided to start him with my doctor who I really like, Dr. David Blackwell. When I scheduled Dylan’s physical he asked when I was going to have a physical. I tried to blow it off but he persisted even reminding me that I skipped the blood work at my last physical and that it had been a couple years. His persistency probably saved my life! I had the physical and followed through with blood work. My psa was 7.84 which isn’t good. Six months later he pushed me to get a second blood test which is protocol on a bad psa reading. The second one was 12.2, definitely not a good score and a big jump in less than a year (🚨🚨🚨). This lead to a trip to a great Eurologist, Dr. Chris Magee, and other tests discovering I had prostate cancer. Today I had it removed and, most likely, we caught it just in time. Please, if you are a man have an annual physical with blood work. Prostate cancer is very treatable if caught in time. It can spread and isn’t always as slow as people say. I’m 54 and 9 of 14 biopsies were positive. Have a physical and blood work! Special thanks to Dr. David Blackwell and subsequently, Dr. Chris Magee (son of John and Mary Ellen Magee my good friends) and Dr. David Scheidler. I will forever be grateful for their care...
