Never - even for a moment - leave young children alone or in the care of another child while in or near bathtubs, pools, spas, wading pools, irrigation ditches, ponds, or other standing water. During swim times, designate a "Water Watcher" - an adult who will pay constant attention to children in the water. Keep young children or children who are not strong swimmers always within arm's length.

She was the FIRST female medical doctor in the U.S. 🥳It is a time to honor women doctors across the country, and the progress they've made since Blackwell's time. Nationally, there are still fewer female doctors than male doctors, but the progress is steady. In 2017, for the first time in history, women made up more than half of all those in medical schools.😮

As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor and celebrate Black pediatricians who brought innovations to medicine and public health.
It is essential to acknowledge and truthfully reckon with systemic racism within the field of medicine, which still harms Black families and Black pediatricians today. Last year, the AAP apologized for racism directed toward Dr. Alonzo deGrate Smith and Dr. Roland Boyd Scott. Both were admitted to the AAP in 1945, six years after their initial applications were rejected based on race. The AAP is committed to being an anti-racist organization and will celebrate Black pediatricians this #BlackHistoryMonth and beyond the month of February.
