Process-focused art allows children to focus on discovery; there are few if any directions to follow, and there is no right or wrong way to do the project. Children focus on creatively exploring materials, tools, and techniques. Every finished art piece will look different as teachers support and encourage children in the creative process rather than ensuring a final product is done "correctly".
Before children begin to understand handwriting, there are important skills they should develop. We use “Mat Man” -Handwriting Without Tears to teach children concepts like size recognition, placement and sequencing.
Space Week ended with a BLAST! 🚀 Students in our PreK room used their imagination splatter painting to create an outer space scene. They read about the moon this week and how asteroids have created craters on its surface. Using aluminum foil "asteroids" and a large sheet of paper representing the moon, this lesson came to life for children as they threw the asteroids making their own swiss cheese-like craters. 🧑🚀🌟🌝
