Now all of our treatment tables are less than 5 years old. Worried about keeping viruses away? Get an air purifier! We have been using air purifiers in our office since April. We are, after all, dealing with a RESPIRATORY virus. It always seemed odd to me that more public health officials weren't recommending them for businesses to use. Some quotable quotes from this interesting article: "It seems baffling that despite mounting evidence of its importance, we are stuck practicing hygiene theater—constantly deep cleaning everything—while not noticing the air we breathe. How is it that six months into a respiratory pandemic, we still have so little guidance about this all-important variable, the very air we breathe?" "Many scientists believe that the virus is emitted from our mouths also in much smaller particles, which are infectious but also tiny enough that they can remain suspended in the air, float around, be pushed by air currents, and accumulate in enclosed spaces—because of their small size, they are not as subject to gravity’s downward pull. If you are tired of the constantly politicized news, I found it refreshing to just see some data without the politics! This article was published in the Lancet, a very reputable journal, and looks at COVID Case data from the top 50 countries, through May 1st, 2020. Of course, there will be lots more data to come since then, but this is a good start. For you science and numbers nerds out there, this article presents of lot of data to wrestle with and understand. Hopefully our leaders can use this, and other data-driven approaches, to develop policy. It could be easy for commentators to cherry pick quotes from the article to support any point of view, but some interesting notes: -Definitely looks like obesity, older age and unemployment are significant risk factors for viral spread and overall mortality. -Strangely, smokers seem to not be affected as much by the virus (the authors suggest they aren't sure why) -there was no observed association between public health policies and the number of critical cases or mortality (so did lockdowns work, or not?) -Importantly, low levels of national preparedness in early detection and reporting, limited health care capacity, and population characteristics such as advanced age, obesity and higher unemployment rates were key factors associated with increased viral spread and overall mortality. -Rapid border closures, full lockdowns, and wide-spread testing were not associated with COVID-19 mortality per million people. (that's deaths) -However, full lockdowns and reduced country vulnerability to biological threats… were significantly associated with increased patient recovery rates. (so maybe flatten the curve helped to improve treatment?) https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/eclinm/PIIS2589-5370(20)30208-X.pdf THELANCET.COM www.thelancet.com

Happy New Year! Isaiah 61:3 has been a verse God has given me to meditate on for this year, 2020. 2020 has been an unprecedented year, unlike any we've seen before. For many it was a year of hardship, loss, tragedy and fear. But my mind has come back many times to the blessings that I have experienced as well. When the frantic pace and many activities of life are stripped away, what is left? We are home, with family, with free time, with our thoughts. For my family, once we broke out out of the shock and stupor of March and April, we stopped binging on food and Netflix, and got motivated: -Like many, we started (and completed!) projects around our home. -I purged a lot of notes and files out of my office, reorganized and caught up on some reading. -Thankfully all of our employees were able to use unemployment benefits, and then come back to work. -My wife and I changed our diets and tried Time Restricted Eating and Keto for a while, with great results. -We also were exercising more seriously and regularly. -We explored Pennsylvania and went on great hikes every weekend (loved Rickett's Glen and Hickory Run) -We spent more time reading the Bible and Meditating. -We were able to strategically take some trips when areas were open (Jersey Shore, Boston, Cincinnati) with no travel restrictions. -Instead of constantly rushing from activity to activity, we spent more time with each other. So we do look forward to turning the page on 2020 and starting a New Year. But in a crisis, God has provided an opportunity; all of these simple, but meaningful things can become priorities again. #holistic #chiropractic #chiropractor #massagetherapist #massagetherapy #ForksTownship #eastonpa
