Make sure the company you choose operates ethically and beware of some of these typical scams:
Replacing Parts When They Don’t Need Replacing - If a tech suggests you have several faulty parts and the cost of replacing them is so high they push you to purchase a new unit, get a 2nd opinion.
Offers Too Good To Be True - Be suspicious of offers of free service or massive discounts
Claiming the Refrigerant Needs to Be Recharged - If this is true, it usually indicates a leak which should be repaired. The recharging scam is a way of unnecessarily billing for refrigerant you shouldn’t need and get you to continually call back without fixing the issue.
Pushy, High Pressure Sales - Don’t let dishonest techs scare you into paying too much for service and parts you don’t need. They may raise safety concerns to scare you into buying now so you don’t get a 2nd opinion
Asking for Cash Up Front - No reputable HVAC company asks for payment before service.
Watch for Bait and Switch - Unscrupulous HVAC companies will attempt to generate more revenue by making "offers you cannot refuse" such as discounted services or products. Once they've gotten in the door, they may try to sell you on other services, or mislead you on the condition of your unit to sell you more than you expected. Remember to always get quotes in writing!
Investigate the HVAC Company you are considering - Verify they are licensed and check their online reviews to make sure this is a company you want to do business with!

IS YOUR HEATING UNIT MAKING NOISES?
Screeching - This could be an issue with the motor bearing or a bad belt. The technician can often apply a special lubricant that will stop the noise. A bad belt will need to be replaced so that the blower can run properly.
Scrapes and Scratching Sounds - This could mean trouble with your furnace's blower wheel and should be addressed immediately because it could damage your heating system. Many times, a technician will only need to tighten the wheel to solve the issue.
Bangs or Popping - These noises come from expanding and contracting within the unit's air ducts. However, if these noises are extremely loud, you may have a problem with your furnace's combustion.
Clapping -
If you hear a sound that is similar to a person shuffling a deck of cards, there may be an object stuck in the blower's blade. It's best to let a technician retrieve the object and check the area to make sure that no extra strain is being placed on your unit's motor.
