As I #travel the world, I am inspired and interested in so much. When I see something I often mentally instantly visual “that” in a fashion accessory or home decor product.
In the case of my girl with the red balloon 🎈 #earrings (see the photo just before this one on my profile), I was inspired by #streetartist #Banksy’s London mural that is dubbed The #GirlwithBalloon (also, #BalloonGirl).
Banksy started this series in 2002-started #London series of stencil #murals.
He painted a stencil of a young girl with her hand extended toward a red heart-shaped #balloon carried away by the wind. The first work was on #Waterloo Bridge, and other murals were around London, though none remain there.
Since Banksy used variants of this design to support social campaigns: in 2005 about the West Bank barrier, in 2014 about the Syrian refugee crisis, and also about the 2017 UK election.
A 2017 Samsung poll ranked Girl with Balloon as the United Kingdom's number one favourite #artwork.
On Oct 5, 2019 when Banksy’s girl with balloon 🎈 painting went to auction at #Sothebys AND SOLD FOR £1,040,000 equivalent to $1,370,00USD
Just as the auctioneer pounded his gable, the painting 🖼 began to shred!!!!
Banksy shows on his YouTube channel where he built the shredder into the frame years in advance Incase anyone tried to auction of off!!!
As with most art, there is a lot of controversy on Banky’s girl with red balloon 🎈 art. Camera’s caught a man pulling a tiny car key type remove out of his pocket which could have started and stopped the Art from being completely shredded.
As a result the piece was only half way shredded causing the value to even further rise upwards of a half million dollars minutes after the purchase.
With most art the buyer remains anonymous. Girl with Red balloon is no different therefore it’s unlikely we will ever know the truth.
What we do know is my Girl With Red Balloon 🎈 earrings won’t last long either which could cause their value to increase.
