Veterinary friends: this video we’ve created for you to share with your clients is a love letter from us to you. We’ve watched in awe and gratitude for the past 6 months as you all have given everything you’ve got - and then some - to care for your community’s pets in the face of a pandemic.
We hope this video will help you share your story with your clients, so they can better understand and appreciate the unprecedented challenges you’ve faced and how they may have affected their recent experiences with your practice. Most importantly, it reinforces that while some of your approaches may have changed, your commitment to your patients hasn’t wavered.
Thank you for everything you do, every single day.

Did you know that your pet’s dental health plays an important role to their overall wellness? Periodontal disease is the most common dental issue in dogs and cats, and you can see early onset in pets as young as 3 years old! This disease can affect your pet’s kidneys, liver, and heart; which in return can cause even more serious health complications. Routine brushing is a good start to keeping your pet healthy, but sometimes they need more! Dental scaling and polishing, is a procedure we can perform to give your pet the best dental care and an even healthier future! Scaling removes plaque and tartar, and is then followed up by polishing (just like we humans receive from our dentists!). Since most dental disease occurs below the gum line, dental x-rays play an important role in a successful dental procedure. By visualizing the bony structures below the gum line, x-rays give our doctors the ability to see where there are pockets of infection, deterioration (or bone loss), and even fractures!

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we want to send a loving THANK YOU to our special someone's – YOU! We can’t say thank you enough to all of our clients that have been with us through the years. You and your pets are the reason why we show up to work each day, and we definitely feel the love from you! Thank you!
Bad breath is not the only sign that your pet needs dental attention! Red/inflamed gums are a common sign of poor dental health, as well as excessive drooling, or even trouble eating. Sometimes broken teeth will show discoloration; and if infected badly enough, may cause abscesses near or around your pet’s mouth. These abscesses can be very painful and uncomfortable for your pet, and it is important for you to be sure that yearly exams are being done on your pet’s teeth to avoid such issues!
Regular teeth cleanings and dental exams for your cat can provide a lot more health benefits for them other than fresh breath! Read up on how to prevent serious dental diseases.

Did you know that brushing your pet’s teeth will not removing existing plaque and tartar? A dental cleaning with scaling and polishing (just like in humans) will remove the current buildup on your pet’s teeth and give your pet a fresh start! These deposits are like cement on the surface of the tooth and will remain there unless properly scaled away by your veterinarian! Once your pet has had a proper dental cleaning, you can incorporate daily brushing into your pet’s routine to ensure the tartar stays away!
Have you ever wondered how you can keep your cat fit, healthy, and happy as a responsible pet owner? For February’s Responsible Pet Owners Month, we’ve shared a few tips on how to keep your cat in healthy shape!

Responsible Pet Owners Month: How To Keep Your Cat Fit And Healthy - CatTime
Tooth resorption, what is it?
Tooth resorption is the number one cause of tooth loss in felines. It is usually identified, by a pink-colored defect on the affected tooth, where it meets the gum line. If you are seeing this, the damage is already done, and extraction is usually the most curative treatment. Resorptive lesions can be affiliated with severe gingivitis in cats, but it is not always the culprit. In fact, it is not truly known why these lesions occur. What we do know, is that they are very painful and can make eating very uncomfortable for your cat. Signs that your cat may be experiencing a dental issue include (but are not limited to): decreased appetite, excessive drooling, tilting the head while eating/chewing, increased irritability, pawing at the jaw, and teeth grinding.

‼️Opening update‼️
We have decided to delay opening until today at 12p.
In order for your pet to receive a thorough dental examination and cleaning, they must undergo general anesthesia. Like humans, pets are monitored while under anesthesia; under close watch of the doctor and technician. Blood pressure, oxygen level, temperature, and heart rate are monitored throughout the entire process, so that each patient receives the most customized level of care during the procedure. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is another precaution we take for most pets undergoing anesthesia. This way, we can see any potentially “red flags”, such a decline in organ function, blood loss, or even evidence of infection that may affect a doctor’s decision to anesthetize your pet. It also gives your pet’s veterinarian a good baseline to compare other bloodwork to in the future, should your pet ever become sick. Our ultimate goal is the safety, comfort, and health of your pet!
After careful consideration, we have decided to delay opening until 12 noon. If you have an appointment before 12 noon today, we will reach out to get your appointment rescheduled. Everyone stay safe out there!
With the continued hazardous road conditions, we have decided to remain closed today. We are planning to operate at normal business hours tomorrow, but encourage anyone with an appointment or pickup to call prior to coming to the clinic. We are monitoring our email and voicemail if you have any immediate concerns and will do our best to get you the answers you need. If you are experiencing an emergency, please contact Animal Emergency Hospital at 410-420-7297. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
