Improper disposal of masks and gloves can be hazardous to the environment. When discarding, be sure to do so in a secure trash bin, do not leave in shopping carts, and snip straps/ear loops of single-use masks to prevent animal entanglement.
If possible, invest in a CDC-approved fabric mask to lessen waste created by single-use ones. *Avoid masks with valves as they do not provide proper protection!*
