Just because we are open does not mean we are doing things business as usual. Have you aerated your soil this year? Last year?
If you've dabbled in gardening, you'll know tilling the soil is an essential part of growing lush, healthy plants. Roots grow stronger and faster when they have looser soil to work around. Conversely, hard-packed soil is difficult for roots to grow through.
This is the same for lawns!
While you shouldn't till a lawn, you can loosen the soil in heavy-trafficked areas by using a spike or core aeration.
Spike aeration uses thin spikes to create small holes through the thatch and dirt to allow more oxygen and water into the ground. It can be done with a machine, or if you have a small yard there are little shoe attachments you can strap onto your feet and go tromping around those compacted paths to loosen them up again and allow for healthy root growth.

As we creep toward December, most gardeners are rushing to finish any last-minute tasks they have not completed — including buttoning up the lawn for the year.
This late in the year, you really only have two things to deal with in terms of your fall lawn care.
Fertilizer should already be done.
Aerating should be done.
The final tasks for your lawn in November are just raking up leaves and giving your grass one final mow after it stops growing. (At this point in the year, it probably has)
If you have only a few leaves left in your yard, you can just mow over them and the leaves and clippings can be left alone as overwinter mulch for your lawn.
Remember to raise your blade! You want to leave the grass pretty long - about 3 inches - so it has plenty to work with when warm weather strikes again.
After that final mow, you can drive your machine right up into a truck to haul it over to our service team for winterization.
