QUESTION: My mother is unable to see clearly even after the corrective eye surgery. What should I do now?
ANSWER: Refractive surgery can produce excellent results that are visible immediately in some patients and others it takes time. Depending on your eyes, the vision may take a few days, weeks, or even months to reach their full potential. Your brain has to adjust to the vision. Please note that 20/20 vision is not guaranteed after having any type of refractive surgery to get rid of glasses. Follow-up appointments are essential after surgery because the vision is assessed at the 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month visits.
It is possible that your mom’s vision could take one to two weeks to adjust and settle. The eye must adapt to the new intraocular lens that has replaced her lens. Remember every patient is different! If the vision is blurry, then your mom needs to consult Clermont Family Eyecare at 352-243-2700 to rule out any permanent sight-threatening conditions.
