FYI, the relapse and overdose rate has increased by 30% since March 2020. Mental health issues related to our lockdown and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression.

Hey, New Jersey ACA family members - in case you didn’t know it, your NJ Intergroup is alive and well, and ready for your service participation! Just because we’re all still dealing with COVID, that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten you!
- Remember - we have a stash of program literature available, or you can order some (without paying shipping from the WSO) through the Intergroup.
- Remember that the Intergroup sponsors your group’s “Zoom”-based meeting while the pandemic is still in place, so you don’t have to drive, or worry about its spreading
- We’ll also be holding “Share-A-Day” events, once the dust settles again!
- FYI - We’ll be moving Intergroup meetings to Club Serenity in Old Bridge in the near future, so keep an eye open for further information on that.
- Also FYI - We’ll be taking a break on meetings over the holidays - our next Intergroup meeting will take place on Jan 17, 2021 - keep your eyes open for more on that, also!

JAGGEDLITTLEEDGES.COM--Check this out if you can relate to this:
Addiction is a disease, that if left untreated, can have fatal results. Yet many families still buy into the shame and stigma, fighting their life and death battles alone, in secrecy, behind closed doors.
One worried mother recently broke her silence and reached out to me. This mother had never talked to anyone before and she had many questions. Mom asked if I would post her questions anonymously as she didn’t want her friends or extended family to know her daughter was addicted.
This mother is not alone. And it’s not just the addicted person who suffers, either. Addiction is a family illness, and each relationship brings unique struggles

EATING DISORDERS
Millions of Americans either have, or at one point in their lives had, an eating disorder.
Just like with substance misuse, these disorders can be linked to unhealthy compulsory behavior, which can have devastating effects on a person’s physical and mental well-being.
Unfortunately, many people struggle with an eating disorder and substance misuse at the same time.
In fact, a 2003 study from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse revealed that 50% of people with an eating disorder also misused alcohol and illicit substances.
Drug use often worsens the effects of an eating disorder. According to an article published on the wellness site Very Well Mind:
“Patients with eating disorders who also have a [substance use disorder] have a more severe eating disorder and SUD symptoms, have higher relapse rates, have more severe medical complications, and are more seriously impaired than individuals with eating disorders alone.”
Learn more about three kinds of eating disorders below:
Anorexia nervosa. People with this eating disorder often have a lower body weight than is considered healthy for their age and height. They also intentionally eat less food because they are afraid of gaining weight. They try to control their weight through extreme diet and exercise.
Bulimia. People with this disorder consume a significant amount of food (also known as bingeing) and then purposely vomit or take laxatives to try to compensate for binge eating.
Binge eating. People with this disorder eat a large amount of food within a relatively short period of time. The person often doesn’t feel in control during the binge, and afterwards feels guilty.
Go to the National Eating Disorders Association website for more information.
