Pistol squat progress! Pistol squats are hard AF to master, but they’re an excellent goal for runners who want to build lower body and core strength through a full range of motion. (Hint: If you’re a runner period, you should fall into that category.) Dr. Josh is using his hand to counter his body weight and assist in his balance. Eventually, the goal is to bring the tookus as close to the heel as possible — without falling over — on both sides! If you’ve ever scratched your head as to why we choose to be out of network, so we can provide the caliber of care we believe actually gets people better.... listen to our patient athlete John! For his post-op care after a partial knee replacement, he chose to go to an in-network clinic (read: patient mill - 😫) because they took Medicare. As soon as he was discharged from their “care,” he reached out to Dr. Josh. John said the “therapy” was a complete waste of his time. He still didn’t feel strong or comfortable with stairs in the subway, let alone bending to the floor. 🤯 This is so frustrating to hear that this happens in our industry; the level of subpar care people receive and accept is disheartening. September 12 at 4:05 PM · A memorable experience this morning as I ran my first (and LAST hopefully😂) virtual marathon on what would have been the Boston Marathon weekend. Running the official Boston Marathon course remains a bucket list goal I know I’ll check off one day, but it was once in a lifetime experience to be able to run out my front door while Courtney Baranello Cruz and Charlotte were able to cheer me on across multiple loops. Thank you to Courtney for always supporting my crazy habits and making it a special day. A huge thank you to Joshua Grahlman of #ClutchPT for getting me to the start and finish line happy and healthy, after being injured all winter and not being able to run without issues until May. Magic man - truly the best in the biz! Dr. Josh recently treated a collegiate rower with low back and hip pain. He was, in a word, a mess, with a massive one-sided strength imbalance. This study reveals a culture of concealment of pain from coaches and teammates in the sport of rowing, and fear of being judged as ‘weak’ because of the limitations caused by low back pain. Rowers age 18-50 reported fear and isolation as a result of their pain. This says a lot about athletes’ mindset and pushing through to show others they aren’t weak — which is 😭 to hear. Pain is the body’s brilliant way of telling your brain something is WRONG, and it won’t magically disappear. It’s not weak to need intervention from a PT; it’s the smartest thing you can do to set yourself up for long term success and health. Our bodies are meant to move for life, not just for competitive pursuits. If you are a parent to a young athlete, discuss this with them. If they don’t want do hear it, send them our way!
