In honor of Energy Efficiency Day, celebrated October 7, we’ll be sharing tips throughout the month to help you save energy and money. Switch to LEDs: They last at least 25 times longer and consume up to 90 percent less electricity than incandescent bulbs. By switching five of your home’s most frequently used bulbs with ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs, it’s possible to save $75 on energy costs annually.
This week’s tip to help winterize your home and make it more energy efficient is to cook at home. When you cook at home you not only warm up your kitchen, but you also help heat surrounding rooms with the extra heat from the stove and oven. Take advantage of this added benefit and prepare meals at home.

This week’s tip to help you winterize your home is to Adjust Your Ceiling Fans to Run in Winter Mode. Run your ceiling fans at a slow pace with the air blowing upwards, which will push the warm air near the ceiling and down the walls to circulate it throughout the room. Just flip the directional switch on your fan to adjust it to run clockwise.
