New Research Shows How Sleep Could Ward Off Alzheimer's Disease
Untreated sleep apnea or sleep disordered breathing shortens or sometimes eliminates REM sleep. And this article shows that missing REM sleep increases your chance of dying earlier from ANY cause. This is yet another article that shows sleep apnea is more dangerous that we ever realized. Don't want to use CPAP? Have you tried and just can't get CPAP to work? Association of Rapid Eye Movement Sleep With Mortality in Middle-aged and Older Adults
This cross-sectional study investigates whether rapid eye movement sleep is associated with greater risk of mortality in 2 independent cohorts and explores whether another sleep stage could be driving these findings.

‘He used to sleep with his mouth wide open every night and wake up angry. I was told, ‘Oh no, that’s normal. Maybe his nose is blocked.’: After noticing her son’s sleep issues mom says ‘trust your gut’
Studies show a HIGH RATE OF SLEEP APNEA among our FIREFIGHTERS, POLICE OFFICERS, EMERGENCY MEDICAL PROVIDERS, AND OTHER FIRST RESPONDERS- INCLUDING ACTIVE MILITARY PERSONNEL. These hard-working public servants often live a considerable percentage of their lives away from home. They also frequently work overnight shifts or multiple consecutive shifts, especially in times of disaster.
And now it is being found that CPAP machines increase the risk of Covid-19 respiratory droplet spread. In fact, Toronto firefighters are no longer allowed to wear their CPAP machines while sleeping on duty.
Oral appliances to treat sleep apnea are a reliable, safe alternative to CPAP, particularly for this segment of our population who needs OSA protection, especially during times of disaster.
