Our Civil Trial lawyers provide a wide array of services that are frequently utilized before a problem even arises. Often their expertise is best applied in keeping clients out of court. To that end, our lawyers draft contracts, develop policies and procedures, and negotiate the resolution of disputes before litigation arises. They spend as much time in mediation and arbitration as they do in court. You can learn more about our Civil Trial lawyers by heading over to our website.

One area of focus for Tharrington Smith is Mediation. We encourage clients to explore settlement options outside of court whenever reasonably possible. Studies show that parties who participate in determining the outcome of their issues are more satisfied in the long-term and more likely to comply with their obligations. Studies also indicate that settlement prospects are greatly enhanced when a trained mediator is brought into the settlement negotiation process. We have numerous trained mediators in our office who are here to help.
64 years ago today, the United States Supreme Court upheld the 2-1 decision of the United States District Court, Middle District of Alabama in Brower v Gayle, which said: “We hold that the statutes and ordinances requiring segregation of the white and colored races on the motor buses of a common carrier of passengers in the City of Montgomery and its police jurisdiction violate the due process and equal protection of the law clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.” This essentially made segregation of buses illegal, helped end the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and is a major day in history.
