Mary Ann Lantsberger-Herriott '45, born on March 22, 1926, in Castlewood, South Dakota, is a Woman of Grit. Her childhood was spent on the family farm, often walking the railroad tracks a mile and a half to a one-room, country schoolhouse. College of Saint Mary was where Mary Ann furthered her education and studied accounting for one semester, which was all she could afford. As a teenager Mary Ann took flight lessons and was able to fly solo for the first time at age eighteen. It was something she enjoyed for years before taking the time to raise her four children. In her retirement years, she would again take flying lessons. Mary Ann was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, an organization in which she was active for over 60 years. Her family has since established an endowed scholarship at CSM in the hopes that it would help a student complete the education she never could. #WomenofGrit

It's our hope that you've experienced full hearts and full bellies after this Thanksgiving holiday. Researchers recently found that one-third of college students felt uncertain about their ability to afford and acquire nutritious food. Now more than ever it's important that we support one another. CSM is currently in the third year of its food pantry program titled, “The Pantry: Healthy Choices, Healthy Living.” Last year, the university launched “2nd Bite Take and Go,” a sustainability initiative where excess food from the dining hall is made available to commuter students. CSM Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Jennifer Grove just co-authored her first book! 👏👏 “Our discoveries about the electric charge properties of chromosomes: and their implications for genetics, pediatrics, oncology, and other medical disciplines," presents *decades* of research findings with the purpose of understanding how chromosome structure, function and chromosomal aberrations can lead to a wide range of diseases and disorders. Dr. Grove earned her B.S. in Biology from the University of Nebraska Omaha in 2005 and M.S. in Biology from UNO in 2007. CSM Lead February 11 at 8:56 PM · CSM Celebrates the Lunar New Year! Our own Dr. Jing Chang wearing a traditional cheongsam or qipao. It was a daily wear for Manchu women in Qing Dynasty of China’s (1644-1912). This one-piece dress has a high neck, closed collar, a loose chest, a fitted waist, and slits up the sides. Starting in about 1920, fashion designers modified Qipao and made it to be the traditional dress for women since then!
