PSA: Just wanted to let you guys know about a new scam we haven't run across before. I listed an item for sale on craigslist and included my mobile number. Almost immediately I got a text message from someone asking about the item. I responded that it was still available, and they sent another message asking me to verify that I was a real person.
The next message came from Google Voice. The scammer was trying to link my mobile phone number into their Google Voice account, so that they could use a clean number to scam more people.
Potentially, they could have even tried to port my number into google voice, and then tried to sell it back to me.
Never send authentication codes to anyone who asks for them (don't worry, I didn't).
