Your opinion on Miami-Dade transportation matters One of the top issues affecting everyone in our county is transportation. We need new ideas and perspectives to help us solve this challenge. One way residents can engage and help shape the future is by serving on the Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust. During her recent State of the County Address, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava spoke of the importance of civic engagement and her efforts to incorporate public feedback from across our community for setting priorities, policies, and budget. The Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) is now recruiting to fill several vacant positions representing districts throughout the county. The CITT oversees how the county’s half-penny transportation surtax is invested in local projects. The surtax generates about $300 million annually and is used to fund projects of the People’s Transportation Plan, including critical rapid transit corridors outlined in the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit Plan. Surtax dollars also have funded the Metrorail Orange Line extension to Miami International Airport, a new fleet of Metrorail vehicles, and municipal projects including trolley and on-demand services in 29 cities. We are looking for citizens of good character who possess the interest, experience and insight needed to make informed decisions and contribute to the development of a comprehensive and well-coordinated county transportation system.
