What Caregivers of All Backgrounds Love About Senior Care
Head into this fall with a healthy perspective and a clear health checklist.
At every age, it’s crucial to keep up with our health screenings. The National Institute of Aging and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends these screenings for those age 50 and older:
● Blood pressure & cholesterol levels should be tested regularly
● Diabetes tests for people who have high blood pressure
● Colorectal cancer screenings
● Vision tests to detect diseases
● Hearing screenings to identify if seniors need aids.
● Depression evaluations as seniors experience life changes
● Vaccinations such as the flu shot can be life saving for older adults
Other vaccinations should be discussed with a health care provider.

Caring for the parts of our body we can’t see is just as important as those we can! 👍🏽
According to American Lung Association, our lungs mature by age 20-25. After age 35, their functionality begins to diminish due to age-related changes. As we get even older, these changes to the lungs – and other surrounding body parts – can make breathing more difficult. 💨
❤️ Care for your lungs with these 5 steps:
● Don’t smoke, or take steps to quit
● Get regular aerobic exercise (with physician approval)
● Avoid exposure to pollutants
● Prevent respiratory infection
● Take a deep breath
Comfort Keepers can help senior clients with both preventive care and recovering from respiratory illness. Learn more:

As we age, our bodies need more than deep breathing exercises to keep respiratory health in check.
➡️ Today, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), affects many adults through symptoms like constant coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and more. Put healthy practices in place to reduce the risk of COPD including:
● Taking steps to quit smoking
● Reducing exposure to air pollution and irritants
● Implementing a healthy diet and exercise plan
● Talking to a doctor about vaccination
Comfort Keepers can help by supporting health programs, preparing meals, providing transportation to scheduled appointments, and more. Learn more about the signs and symptoms of COPD in seniors:

Today we celebrate Veterans Day with gratitude for all of the wonderful veterans we have the opportunity to work with and serve in return.
In celebration of Comfort Keeper's 20th Anniversary, we chose Comfort Keepers client and Navy Veteran, Jesus Calzada as one of our "20 Wishes for 20 Years" recipients. We surprised him with a motorized scooter to help him get around a bit easier. Jesus has always been an inspiration to us.
Jesus helps care for his 4-year-old granddaughter. He drives her to school every day, but his mobility challenges and heart condition make it tough for him to walk her up to the school door. Watch his story here: https://bit.ly/37VS3GL

Not only has Tony Bennett gifted the world dozens upon dozens of outstanding jazz albums filled with rich, moving melodies, but he and his family are now gifting us something entirely different: the power of breaking the silence about his battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Diagnosed in 2016, Bennett recorded his infamous album with Lady Gaga amid his condition, and “he is doing so many things, at 94, that many people without dementia cannot do. He really is the symbol of hope for someone with a cognitive disorder,” says his neurologist.
His story helps to shed light on the stigma surrounding the disease by challenging current misconceptions and stereotypes and spreading hope for maintaining good quality of life for those who suffer.
