The Beginning to an End
There are many times in life that we have highs and many times we have lows. Always remember, "life happens in the middle." Our brain cannot deal with extremes. "Black and white" or "all or nothing" thought processes lead us to the inevitable depths of depression. You see, our brain defaults to depression when we have extreme thoughts. Our brain also does certain things really well. One of these is to automate processes that are repeated over and over. These processes become subconscious and deal a death blow to our ability to be resilient. Depression is the result.
So......when you have a your next black, white, all or nothing thought, Like "Nobody understands me, or every time I try, I fail, or life is bad, My marriage is horrible or I wish that everyone would leave me alone, we need to confront this.....ask yourself, "why is this a lie?" and name as many reasons why this is not true. If we follow this process, depression will not win, and we will remain resilient.
