1st Grade is getting ready for a safe return to the CEA campus next week! To prepare, the three first grade classes spent time this week talking about hand washing, social distancing, and some returning to school safely.
Yesterday they discussed the importance of 😷mask wearing and how they keep us and others safe. Then they made a mask for their stuffed animal friend!

3rd and 4th grade students are working on Abstract Symbolic Self-Portrait inspired by Sandra Silberzweig. They are learning about analogous colors, abstract art and adding at least 5 symbolisms that represent who they are.

Today, Mrs. Rodriguez took her class outside for reading time. After each student found their “reading spot,” following social distance guidelines, they picked the giant book they wanted to read and spent some time enjoying the wonder of books outdoors. Only a few weeks into pre-primary and they were having a lively discussion about how many sight words they were each finding!

When we give our children the gift of being bilingual, we are allowing them the chance to have a better understanding of themselves and their community, opening their eyes to new ideas and ways of being, and broadening their horizons for life. Last week, 5th grade finished the first unit of their new Spanish book, “Espacio Joven.” They are working on the verbs ser, tener, and llamarse and further developing their writing in Spanish with Mrs. Espinoza-Valls.

3rd Grade is learning about plants and their structures. Students conducted an experiment with celery, water, and food coloring. The purpose was to understand how the stem works. Because of the food coloring, students were able to see how the stem carries water to the leaves.

7th grade has been studying ancient Egypt with Mr. Valhuerdi. Mr. V asked them to each design a pyramid of their own, in which they would be buried with everything they would need for an eternal afterlife, imagining themselves as pharaohs during the Old Kingdom period of Egyptian history. Students were given complete freedom to design the pyramid as they wished, and the results were amazing! Some created pyramids sculptures with items they had at home, others drew pictures, and some even created their pyramids on Minecraft!

It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform you of the loss of Mr. Frank Llerena a valuable and very loved member of our community. Frank Llerena, or Sensei, as his students called him, was the martial arts teacher at CEA/CEC for over 25 years. He blessed us with his energy and his devotion to his students and the school. He was a wonderful teacher, an active and loving member of the CEA community, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and most importantly, he was a good man.
Our deepest condolences go out to his family, Mrs. Grisel Llerena, Mrs. Fransel Lapica, Mrs. Jannine Rodriguez, and his grandchildren, Camila, Sebastian, Caleb and Adrian. The Llerena family is an integral part of the Conchita family. We love you and our hearts and prayers are with you during this time.
