About

We are a boutique child and family focused group of healing professionals. Our team of experienced child psychologists and family counselors is dedicated to helping families in our community. We work with families in all their configurations; children, parents, individuals, couples, and siblings.
We believe families are doing the best they can with what they know, and we help build on each person’s unique strengths.
We do this by teaching coping tools, increasing emotional awareness, building empathy and compassion, and supporting understanding of self and others.
We use the latest science & research based treatment approaches, combine them with expressive methods of play, art, or sand tray, & throw in some humor, playfulness, and support.
We treat anxiety, ADHD, depression, autism, trauma, grief, self-esteem issues and more. We offer psychological testing to get an accurate diagnosis, group therapy, couples counseling, play therapy, and family therapy.

Temper tantrums are very normal in young kids as they learn to regulate their emotions. It's our job as parents to help them get through these times of big emotion and help them learn how to handle these emotions. Co-Regulation is a great tactic towards combating future meltdowns and tantrums. This allows us as parents to connect with our children and understand them better. Co-regulation often comes natural to parents during the infant stage, but becomes more difficult in the toddler stage as kids are often overwhelmed by their daily emotions. With Co-regulation, we want to provide a warm and responsive relationship to our children while teaching or coaching our children self-regulation skills. Below are some Co-Regulation techniques to try at home: 1. Label feelings 2. Body Calming 3. Breathe together 4. Sensory activities 5. Listening to music #tempertantrums #ConnectionsCFC

"Our emotions have a mind of their own, one which can hold views quite independently of our rational mind." We've all had those moments where our emotions just take over. Our body goes into fight, flight, or freeze mode and we don't know how to react otherwise. Take a deep breathe, take a pause, take whatever you need to get yourself back on track. Our emotions get the best of us from time to time and that is okay. #TherapistsofTexas #ConnectionsCFC

Are you familiar with the 'witching hour'? The afternoons can be extremely difficult as everyone is starting to get a little tired from the day. 😫 Have you checked out Dr. Lauren Pasqua's 👱🏻‍♀️ podcast interview yet?? She talks all about children and emotional regulation. As parents, we want to be able to help our children better regulate their emotions, but this can be extra challenging when we not at full capacity. Low capacity often means everyone is tired and more sensitive, so how do we figure out how work around this? Click the link below to check it out today. 👇 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=A2H-RAiBJs4 #emotionalregulation #ConnectionsCFC
Have you put together a coping box for your kids? This is a great tool that is easy to put together and a great way to be proactive when it comes to dealing with temper tantrums and upset kiddos. The coping box is something you can put together with fun activities that can teach coping skills to children in the moment. Take a few minutes one day and find a medium to large size basket or container to get started. Below we have listed a few suggestions of what you can include in your coping box: 1. Pictures of family or friends 2. Books about emotions (check out our post this Friday with some of our top recommendations) 3. Bubbles 4. Fidget Spinners 5. Small pad of paper and pen 6. Journal 7. Calming Jar (check out the podcast interview link for directions) 8. Slinky We'd love to highlight your coping box, so feel free to tag us or send us a photo and we'll share it! #bigemotions #ConnectioncsCFC

Kids grieve in a much different way than adults. Children may be sad one moment and playing tag the next. It makes it hard to know what to focus on, or if your child needs help. Most kids who have had a loss would benefit from a safe place to process feelings, get support, and find a new normal. There isn't one right way to support your grieving kids, so don't stress out. It's important to listen and take cues from their behavior. Family counseling is a great way to help your kid work through the grieving process and also offers extra support to you as a parent. #griefandloss #ConnectionsCFC

Check out Dr. Wiese!! Equip Ep.#07 Help! My teen is stuck in anxiety and depression! What do I do? StoneBridge Church premiered a video. November 12 at 1:49 PM · In this episode, we talk with Licensed Psychologist, Meredith Weise, about helping our teenagers deal with anxiety and depression. Meredith is on staff at Connections Child and Family Center. Here's more on this week's episode. Being a teenager can be tough. Their bodies and brains are changing quickly at a time when parents, teachers and peers expect a lot from them. Even before COVID-19, the mental health of our teens was an issue. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), 13.3% of U.S. kids ages 12 to 17 had at least one major depressive episode during the previous year and one-third had an anxiety disorder in their lifetime. Today we will be talking about how to distinguish between normal teen angst and anxiety or depression and what parents can do to help their kids cope.
