Aiden, 14, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) toward the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to visitation restrictions, only one parent or caregiver is allowed into the medical center per patient. Every Tuesday while Aiden’s mom joins him in the clinic for cancer treatment, his dad, Chuck, stands outside and dances to lift Aiden’s spirits. Together, they worked to solicit the funding and donation of three automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to our Cook Children's Prosper Specialties building.
The AEDs are accessible on the lobby of each floor to ensure that we are prepared to assist anyone who is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

One year ago, Zak Acker practiced Kangaroo Care for the first time with his daughter, Amelia, in the Cook Children’s NICU. Kangaroo Care is skin-to-skin contact with your child and is powerful in the healing process of premature and ill babies. This week, “Mia” celebrated turning 1 year old! Her mom, Amanda, describes this little queen as “strong, gentle, sweet, beautiful and pure.”
