I trust you. And I don't want your child to be miserable. And it's much harder to examine a fussy baby. So treat them. Please. If you don't trust me to trust you, you might be with the wrong doctor. 2) (Related to 1): "I promise they had fever at home but I gave them Tylenol." Again I trust you. And whether it was 103.5 or 102.1 or 99 here, I'm still thinking and investigating like they had fever...because you told me they have fever. That's all I needed to hear. 3) "They didn't sleep all night and I had to wake them up from a nap to get here." While I can't always accommodate this, I would love for you to call in this instance and say, "They just fell asleep and have been up all night, do you have anything available later?" I would love to get this call and have a chance to do my best. Because when baby didn't sleep, parents didn't sleep either. The Doc Smitty - Dr Justin Smith, Pediatrician January 5 at 8:59 AM · A look at a few great studies/surveys to suggest that mom's who test positive for COVID but have few or no symptoms at delivery may be able to safely room-in with their baby. Italy-62 babies. Moms were asked to wear a mask while breastfeeding and to wash hands frequently. 61 babies tested negative throughout the study period. 1 baby converted to positive after mom became more ill with COVID on day 5 but did not develop significant symptoms and was negative by one month of age. New York-120 babies. Babies were kept in an incubator and moms asked to wash hands frequently and wear a mask while breastfeeding. None of the babies in this study had a positive test. AAP survey-Over 4000 volunteers whose babies were tested for COVID. 60% of those babies were rooming in and less than 2% of the babies tested positive for COVID. Keep in mind that these are all in term nurseries and that ill or premature babies may require more precautions and that moms who have COVID but are significantly symptomatic may need to be treated differently.

In the last 24 hours, at least 13 children were treated in the Cook Children's Emergency Department for carbon monoxide poisoning. Families are going to extreme measures to warm their homes during the historic winter freeze. Using propane or diesel-burning engines, generators, gas ovens or stovetops inside or too close to your home can emit toxic fumes and cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Another winter storm expected is Wednesday and could bring several more inches of snow in the coming days. While trying to stay warm, remember safety is your top priority! We are making important updates to our visitor policy.
