What we know about the COVID-19 vaccine in children and pregnant women
We in the health care professions are giving as much as we can but giving out as things get worse and worse.
I lost a pediatrician colleague to suicide last weekend. She had previously suffered from COVID-19 and then sank into deep depression. She was someone who contributed immeasurably to her patients and to our profession and was tremendously respected among her peers.
Please be compassionate in your choices. Doing the right things now- wearing masks, distancing, staying within your bubble- WILL save lives (maybe mine) until the vaccine is deployed to the population. There is light at the end of this dark tunnel. Let’s not needlessly lose any more as we near the end of this nightmare!

Cook Children’s Keller doctors and staff were eager to receive their first doses of the COVID vaccine. We are thankful for all the volunteers, scientists and public health experts who made this happen. We are privileged to finally be able to protect our patients, families and ourselves. We are humbled and heartbroken for the hundreds of thousands of people for whom this came too late. The last 9 months have been filled with fear, grief and despair but this week we finally have hope.

A visit from Jolly Ol' Saint NICU! The little ones in our NICU are clearly on the nice list and got an extra special visit from Santa, also known as Randall Grubbs, M.D., one of our neonatologists. We made sure that this Dr. Claus was Cook Children's-approved and visitor policy-compliant. Please enjoy these sweet memories that capture the first Christmas for some of our tiniest patients!

Wearing masks will continue to be required at all Cook Children's locations. In light of recent announcements from city, county and state officials around mask mandates, we wanted to share the following:
Masks are still required for everyone entering a Cook Children’s location, including caregivers and employees, and those who have been vaccinated.
Why are we doing this?
· We are continuing to follow the guidelines and recommendations from the CDC, other science-based organizations, and our medical experts.
· More infectious variants are circulating in Texas, and millions more people need to be vaccinated.
· We know that wearing masks work in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Thank you for understanding, and for helping us protect our patients, families and employees.
We are having lots of St. Patties day fun and Miss Valerie hit the jackpot with her pot of gold!
