Cooler temps with some rain this week☔️
James Greenhaw
September 20 at 3:30 PM ·
Nice cool temps continue today and into the early week as tropical storm Beta brings rain chances to the area.
Tropical storm Beta continues to be choked by air which should not allow it to strengthen any longer. However large amounts of rain are still possibly mainly along the immediate coast of up to 12 inches. The track of Beta has pushed slightly north, and landfall is now expected tomorrow night around midnight between Matagorda and Freeport. Winds should not be much of an issue with 60mph sustained at landfall, if the center of the system can get rid of the dry air, there would be a small chance of some additional strengthening, however that chance is very low at this time. The main issues from Beta will continue to be the threat of flooding, especially in Galveston and Houston, some isolated tropical tornadoes are also expected.
Locally rain chances will increase tonight and especially tomorrow and Tuesday as areas east of I-35 should see 1-2 inches of rain, with some locally higher totals in any heavier rain bands that delvelop. Winds will pick up slightly as well, but keep in mind that we could see a few wind gusts up to 40mph in the rain bands.
"Had a mini split system installed in my garage 3 weeks ago. What a blessing. When Nick came out to look at the garage he was the only contractor that suggested a location for the outdoor unit that wouldn't be an eyesore in our front courtyard. He suggested a location on the back side of the house were my main house unit is located. This required using more copper supply line , but the result is more aesthetically.." says Don on Google

A hurricane and winter weather?!? Nothing like October weather in Texas😂

Hurricane and a winter storm...
Locally, next front due tomorrow, with high rain chances.
October is such a fun weather month... well that is there is usually a wide variety of weather across the nation during the fall months.
We have tropical storm Zeta that has now formed, this is now tied with 2005 with the most named storms. Zeta is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday. It does appear that Zeta will move over some fairly warm water in the central Gulf and develop into a hurricane. It’s a little to early to tell how strong Zeta will get, but it does appear that Zeta should weaken a bit before moving inland between eastern Louisiana and the western tip of Florida as a weak hurricane or strong tropical storm.
A strong mountain storm system will bring winter weather to parts of northern and western Texas starting tomorrow. Temps have already dropped to below freezing in the extreme northern Panhandle of Texas. Travel will be discouraged starting tomorrow through Wednesday in parts of those areas.
I’m not expecting any winter weather locally, but we will see temps drop into the 40’s by tomorrow night, and possibly stay in the 40’s until Thursday, as will see widespread light to moderate rains across the area.
First heater cycle of the season!🥶

Cold Front, followed by immediate warm up, followed by cold front..
Welcome to the typical fall weather in Texas. Where the weather is just the same from one day to the next.
If you haven’t lived in Texas very long, this is what we typically see for the next 5 months. Plenty of warm days, cool days, and cold day.
Our first front will arrive Friday afternoon which will have about a 20° temp drop behind it. We should see temps rise to around 80° by noon, and then drop to around 60° for the rest of the afternoon. Winds will also be quite strong out of the north and northwest around 20-35mph. We will see only a slight chance of a few light rain showers tomorrow morning and then along the front.
Saturday will be fairly pleasant with temps in the upper 40’s in the morning warming to the upper 60’s in the afternoon.
Sunday we will start out in the upper 50’s and warm up rapidly into the mid 80’s.
Our second front arrives Monday around noon, with a 25° drop. We should top out around 80° and drop into the 50’s by the afternoon. Again winds will be strong around 20-35mph.
Tuesday will be a fairly raw day, as temps look to stay in the 40’s all day with rain now expected.
We do look to gradually warm up each day through the end of the week.
Happy November, Y’all!
Do you believe...it’s time to Fall back an hour?!?😂😂😂

Obviously it’s still 2020 with tornados and snow in Texas on the last day of the year.
Quite a massive storm system now, as we have all types of weather in Texas today. From a tornado watch in southeast Texas to flooding across east and parts of central Texas to snow, sleet, and freezing rain in central, north, and southwest Texas. If you are traveling today, please make sure you know about any possible road closures especially west of the Austin area.
Locally we will continue to see showers and thunderstorms through the entire afternoon, some of the storms could contain some small hail, or even some grapuel, as the temps in the mid to upper levels are below freezing. Rainfall across the area has generally been around 1.5-3 inches so far and we could see another 1-2 inches before the day is done. Some minor flooding is possible. Temps will not warm much today either as most areas won’t get above 40°, with lows tonight in lower 30’s locally, if you are traveling west of the area tonight, temps will far to below freezing and some bridges and overpasses may be slick with some minor icing.
As the low pressure center passes very near us later today, there will be a small window that even locally we could see some wet snowflakes, but those chances are low and I’m not expecting any accumulations as temps will be above freezing. However if you are west of Wimberly to Lampasas you could see some accumulation of snow of 1-2 inches. The further west you go towards San Angelo, accumulations could approach one foot of snow. Just FYI, travel will not be recommended in those areas.
This storm definitely is packing the punch, and had the low pressure system moved a bit more east of the area as earlier indicated by the early forecast models we would have seen the snows accumulations locally.
Free Furnace Promo extended till January 15th!💥🥳💥
So...are we going to end 2020 with a little snow?!? 🥶

US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas says potential for Wintry Weather is increasing for Wednesday into Thursday.
A very cold and potent storm system will be pushing through the area on Wednesday afternoon and early evening. This will bring a threat of isolated strong to severe storms to the Eastern half of South Central Texas. In addition, locally heavy rainfall may occur across the Eastern areas.
Chances of a rain/snow mix are possible across portions of the Hill Country and Edwards Plateau. Snowfall accumulations ranging from of a dusting to 2 inches are currently forecast across the Hill Country and Edwards Plateau late Wednesday night through early Thursday evening. Isolated pockets of 2 to 4 inches of snow expected across northern Val Verde and Edwards Counties.
At this time precipitation on Thursday along the I-35 corridor is expected to remain a cold rain. If any snow did occur in this region, it is not expected to accumulate.
The snowfall forecast amounts are currently low confidence and will continue to be refined. Be weather aware and stay tuned to your local forecasts from reliable sources.
Good Luck Rouse Raiders! We’re so proud of you ❤️

We are now about 48 hours from the possible snow event for Central Texas.
Most of the models have shifted south again from previous models at midnight. This could be temporary, however it will be interesting to see the latest models later today. We really are on the fine line of no snow to possibly a few inches of snow. A lot of this will have on a temperature difference of 1 degrees. As that 1 degrees can mean the difference of no snow to 4 inches of snow.
Places north of the area from south of Dallas to north of Georgetown are becoming more likely for a multi inch snow storm. This will be a very wet snow and will likely stick to the ground as it will be quite large and will take a bit longer to melt on the ground.
I would not be surprised to see Winter Storm Watches go in effect later today for Sunday, but we will leave that up to the NWS. I would at the very least expect all of Central Texas from San Angelo-Abilene-Dallas-Georgetown to be under one, along with points east and west of Central Texas.
Driving conditions will be challenging in those areas as well, so please take time now to determine if you need to travel in those areas.
Stay tuned for more updates later today, especially if a Winter Storm Watch is issued.

Here we GO!!! Please share.... I will try to go live later tonight to discuss more.. I can answer as many questions as possible as well in this post.
WOW., Where to start... We are talking about a major mess and the word Brutal that I used the other day is going to be an understatement.
Everything I have mentioned over the last few days is now looking more and more likely.
I'd like to start with the first issue of the possibility of freezing rain and drizzle tonight and tomorrow into tomorrow night. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas just to our north and west which includes Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Liberty Hill, and Leander. We will see temps continue to drop through the night and even through tomorrow. We could see some minor icing on bridges and overpasses in the area's mentioned above, we could also see some spots further south as forecast models continue to push a little further south and east. I would definitely pay attention in the morning just to see where that freezing line is. TxDot has been out putting deicer down on area roads in anticipation of possible ice building up.
Friday night through Sunday look cold as temps will stay in the 30's with a few light sleet and snow flurries. Sunday night looks to be the beginning of the major winter storm for our area. Right now it does look like we will start with freezing rain, changing to sleet and then snow. Its still a little early to talk snowfall totals, but the forecast models do range from a couple of inches all the way up to 10 inches. Temps will be brutally cold with highs on Monday only in the upper teens to lower 20's, wind chills will be in from 0 degrees to -15 degrees. Tuesday morning looks to be the coldest night with lows in the single digits to near 0 in some area's.
As far as travel, we will see some issues tonight through Friday morning with some icy bridges and roadways, especially north and west of the area. Friday afternoon through Sunday, only minor travel issues area expected. Sunday night through Tuesday late morning travel will be discouraged completely across the entire area.
Pflugerville forecast. Remember temps will likely be colder west and north of the area.
Tonight 31°- 80% Rain,Freezing Rain
Tomorrow 35°- 100% Rain, Freezing Rain, Sleet
Tomorrow Night 31°- 80% Rain, Freeing Rain, Sleet
Friday 38°- 20% Rain, Sleet
Friday Night 33° 20% Rain, Sleet
Saturday 35° - 20% Rain, Sleet, Flurries
Saturday Night 26° - 40% Sleet, Flurries
Sunday 31°- 20% Flurries
Sunday night 20°- 60% Freezing Rain, Sleet, Snow(1-2")
Monday 20° dropping into the teens in the day - 80% Sleet, Snow(2-3") Wind Chill 0°- -15°.
Monday Night 2° - 30% Snow
Tuesday 19° Partly Cloudy

Forecast models are pushing possible freezing rain further east and south late tonight through tomorrow and again tomorrow night. I’ll have a more detailed forecast later.
The models above are showing ice accumulations through tomorrow at noon, these same models yesterday were only showing accumulations over the hill country and Dallas areas.
Please check out my overnight post if you missed it..
It’s time to start preparing for the cold, if you haven’t already.

Some of the newest models are out and they have trended much colder, I’m not sure I’ll buy into temps in the single digits for Valentine’s Day just yet. But I will start to buy in that we could see multiple days below freezing along with multiple chances of seeing freezing rain, sleet , and some possible snow. This is still a week or so away, many changes in store still so stay turned!!
Could see a few light showers Friday morning, otherwise it will be quite cool with highs only in the mid to upper 50’s.
