Featured Lot: 300 WWI/II Red Cross Nurse Uniforms
At the beginning of WWI, the American Red Cross was a small organization. When the US Declared war on Germany in 1917, it began a period of rapid growth, providing aid both at home and abroad. By 1918 it had become a major national humanitarian organization with universal recognition. To help overworked nurses care for returning veterans and to sustain ongoing, domestic nursing programs, the Red Cross introduced the Volunteer Nurses’ Aide Service in 1918. Red Cross nurses aided those afflicted by diseases that accompanied the hostilities, including the Spanish flu epidemic.

Lot 76: Colt Model 1849 Cap & Ball Pocket Revolver
The Colt pocket revolver was the single largest selling of the Colt revolvers until well into the 20th century. Initially, City dwellers in the East mainly purchased the five shooters for travel “insurance” and home protection. But many of these Pocket Colts also went west for California’s Gold Rush. They then became popular with Civil War officers as a trusty, sturdy sidearm. For decades during the mid-19th century, adventurers worldwide praised these little Colts in the highest terms.
