Have a safe, happy Labor Day!
Did you ever wonder about the origin of Labor Day? Today it means backyard BBQs, an extra day off, the end of summer, and Labor Day sales. But how did it begin?
The first Labor Day was in 1882, when 10,000 workers hoping to improve working conditions early in the Industrial Revolution marched from City Hall to Union Square in New York City. Twelve years later president Grover Cleveland made it a national holiday.
We’ve come a long way, we have a lot to celebrate. Here’s to the American worker, and that means all of us. We’re all American workers!
Many of us will try to find the words to express our gratitude to the men and women who died in service to our country.
We will defer to John McCrae's words in his WWI poem, "In Flanders Fields". McCrae fought at the Western Front in 1914 and died of pneumonia while on active duty in 1918.
Seeing red poppies starting to grow in fields still ravaged by war inspired his poem and has given images like this one their significance.
The CORELOT family wishes your family a safe, meaningful Memorial Day.
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
A lot of people ask us what it's like to live on our Towles Mill acreages (in our brand new Natalie model on a 10-20+ acre home site).
Well, it's secluded enough to be quiet and safe from today's uncertainty. Yet it's close enough to parks and history and medical and shopping that you don't feel separated from the things you want.
Home and land from the low to mid $300s (only two left!). The image shows the four home sites we're building on now.

Tabula Rasa...a clean slate...for 2021
Truth is we all like fresh starts and the new year is one of the most popular times to resolve, declare, or decide. (After a year like 2020 maybe we should add: breathe a sigh of relief!)
2021 is your Tabula Rasa -- your clean slate.
What story will you write with your time and attention? Whatever you choose, know you are not alone. Folks across town and across the oceans -- we’re all in this together. We want good health, a safe family, and a return to normalcy, same as you.
Together, we can get there. Be patient. Be smart. Be safe. And be kind.

Time to winterize your hose bibs!
If you do this every year, let this be a gentle reminder that early is better than late.
If this is news to you, these simple steps can protect your pipes from freezing:
Locate the shut-off valve for each outside hose bib. Each bib will have its own. The shut-off valves will be inside your house, possibly in the basement, crawl space or utility room.
Turn each valve off.
Go outside and detach the hoses, drain, and store inside.
Then turn each outside hose bib on to drain any water remaining in the pipe. Leave the bib in the on position for the winter.
That's it...
Optional: Begin this process in the late afternoon, as a hot toddy is in order upon completion.
