Have a great weekend!
Today we celebrate Cornerstone September birthdays! 🥳 Happiest of birthdays to the amazing Heather Shore! 🎉
Heather is a true team player, and she cares deeply for her co-workers. ✨
Most days, you’ll see Heather’s smiling face at our front desk. 😊 But you may not know that this past year, Heather has trained to become a histotechnician here at Cornerstone. In this role, she’s become adept at processing frozen sections of tissue in our onsite lab as Dr. Fieleke performs Mohs Surgery. 💯
Heather, we are so proud of you for taking on new challenges this past year! 👏 Cheers to the year to come!

Exciting day at Cornerstone Dermatology as we welcome Dr. Ross Reule!
As frequently as we’re all sanitizing and cleansing our hands these days, fall and winter are bound to bring EXTRA dry skin for many of us.
Dry skin isn’t merely cosmetic or a slight annoyance. For many of us, it can be a serious medical problem with itching, flaking, bleeding, pain and discomfort. See a dermatologist's top tips for dry hands here:

Have you met your insurance deductible for the year? ✅ That means NOW is a great time to schedule your full-body skin exam with Cornerstone board-certified dermatologist, Ross Reule, MD.
Although anyone can develop skin cancer, Caucasians and men over the age of 50 have the highest risk of melanoma. But melanoma isn’t just for more mature populations, it’s the second most common cancer in women ages 15 to 29. Skin cancer can affect anyone, regardless of your age!
Dr. Reule will begin caring for patients at Cornerstone Dermatology on Nov. 16! Call 816-287-1528 to schedule your full-body skin check with him.
We’ve never been so excited about a parking lot! 🤩 Thank you to everyone who has been patient with our parking situation these past few months! 🚧🚜🧱🔨
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” -William Arthur Ward
Amid all the challenges of 2020, you have made our jobs a joy. We are grateful for the many blessings this year has held!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

You don't have to look very far to find someone in need, during the holiday season or any time of the year.
While giving back is foundational to Cornerstone Dermatology's mission year-round, today in honor of #GivingTuesday, we delivered gifts and skincare goodie bags to the residents of nearby John Knox Village. 🎁🎄
For the health and safety of their residents during these times, John Knox is not accepting visitors in any area of the campus, so we dropped gifts at the administrative center. We know that the holidays can be a lonely time for many people, and that is only compounded this year.
Thank you to Cornerstone team members Savannah Brattin Bush, Heather Jeffers Shore, Stephanie Lee and Ross Reule for joining with David Fieleke & family on your weekend to help spread some holiday cheer! ♥️💚

Are you crushing your fitness goals in the new year? 👟💪🏋️♀️ If you recently upgraded to the latest fitness tracker, you may be noticing contact dermatitis, a red, itchy rash under your band. This irritation is most commonly caused by a nickel allergy or sensitivity.
One solution is to use jewelry shield, a coating that provides a (temporary) barrier between the band and the skin. Another is to return the device for a different model before your warranty runs out! 😱
This is actually Dr. Fieleke’s wife’s wrist about a week into wearing her Fitbit versa. She found that removing the device for a few days to let the irritation dissipate and then not wearing the tracker when her skin was wet cured the problem for her! 🙌
To get to the bottom of persistent contatct dermatitis, call (816) 287-1528 to make an appointment at Cornerstone Dermatology.

New week, new intentions. Our team's January health challenge from Cornerstone Dermatology nurse practitioner Stephanie Lee is to drink AT LEAST 60 oz. of water per day. Want to join us?! 👏⠀
⠀
The body is composed of 60 percent water, and water is important for ALL cellular functions. That's why when we're ill, physicians remind us to get plenty of fluids to help rid the body of toxins and help improve cellular function to heal.⠀
⠀
NOT drinking enough water has a multitude of symptoms including but not limited to ⠀
headaches/migraines, dizziness, fatigue, dark-colored urine, confusion, dry mouth. ⠀
⠀
So fill up your cup, and drink 💦 to your health!
An annual skin exam 🔎 helps us detect skin cancer at its most early and therefore most treatable stage. 💯 How long has it been since your last exam?
During your appointment, you may notice us pull out this little tool called a dermatoscope … this helps us to get an even CLOSER look at your spots by magnifying and shedding targeted light in an area of concern.
We’re experts at determining the difference between benign (harmless) spots and more concerning precancerous growths or even melanoma. If we notice something suspicious, we recommend a biopsy to rule out skin cancer.
If you notice anything new or unusual on your skin, please give us call at (816) 287-1528.

We're all in the spirit this ❤️💛RED FRIDAY! 🏈🎉Let's #RunItBack Chiefs! 👏
Is it lunchtime yet? 😋
We ❤️ our Chick-Fil-A as much as the next person! BUT our February Cornerstone Wellness Challenge from nurse practitioner Stephanie Lee is to limit fast food consumption to once per week!
Why skip the drive through?
Fast food is high in sodium, cholesterol, saturated fats and trans fat. It’s mostly carbs with no fiber which causes severe fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
People that eat fast food regularly are 51% more likely to suffer from depression. 😱
Fast food consumption is linked to an increase in headaches, higher risk for HTN, elevated cholesterol and weight gain ... which contribute to heart disease.
Even acne can be an adverse side effect.
Let us know if you want to join us by dropping a 🍔🍗🍟🥤 below or tell us what drive through habit would be hard for you to give up!
We certainly hope it doesn’t come to this, but we’re prepared for the possible rolling blackouts throughout the KC Metro area! 💡Stay safe and warm tonight, everyone! 🥶
💕Happy Valentine's Day from Cornerstone Dermatology! 💝
One of the greatest love stories in the history of Western music is that of Robert and Clara Schumann. ❤️❤️ These two musical greats were crazy about each other from the very beginning. After a long courtship, they finally got married in 1840. Robert wrote the song "Widmung" (Dedication) as a wedding gift to Clara. It was later transcribed into a piano piece by Franz Liszt, and it remains faithful to its original intent: a musical depiction of a very happy husband and wife.
Dr. Fieleke learned the piano piece to play at his brother's wedding and is honored to share it with you today. Happy Valentine's Day!
Our team has been LOVING the warmer weather this week and is taking advantage of the opportunity to get some steps in during the lunch hour! This month, Cornerstone nurse practitioner Stephanie Lee has challenged us all to get AT LEAST 15 minutes of exercise each day, and this is a good start!
What's your favorite way to get moving!?
It’s been nearly a year since we first began experiencing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here at Cornerstone, we've become trusted experts at preventing and treating acne related to mask-wearing, now commonly called ‘maskne.’
Here are three tips for soothing maskne. For all our tips, see our blog post: https://www.cornerstonedermatology.com/blog/2021/3/9/maskne
✅Find a good fit. It’s important your mask fits snug but doesn’t place pressure on your skin.
✅Switch to a mask made of silk or other natural fibers. Avoid synthetic fibers like nylon, polyester and rayon that are more likely to cause irritation and breakouts.
✅Skip heavy makeup under your mask. This can clog pores and lead to more breakouts.

Giving back to our community and to those in need is at the heart of our charitable mission at Cornerstone Dermatology.
We were recently able to donate to St. Kolbe Puckett Center for Healing, a nonprofit organization based in St. Joseph, Missouri dedicated to helping people face addiction to drugs and alcohol and find sustained recovery and holistic healing.
The founder of this organization is a friend of Dr. Reule’s. We love that the center aims to not turn away anyone away who is seeking recovery.
