Why should you hire a local attorney to help with your Hurricane Laura claim?
Like any other service provider during these times - from tree removal companies to roofers to contractors - you want to know you can trust your attorney.
Our law firm has been a part of Lake Charles for more than 50-years. Not only that, but every one of our attorneys and staff members live and raise their families here. Like you, our homes, schools, and churches were devastated. Like you, some of us and our friends and families are being treated unfairly by insurance.
You should hire a local firm that was here before the Hurricane because you can count on us to be here after. We don't just want to settle Hurricane Claims, we want to be a part of rebuilding Lake Charles better than ever. We want it for you and your family as much as we do for us and ours.
Cox, Cox, Filo, Camel & Wilson is and always has been #SWLAStrong.
Every insurance policy is different – what may or may not be covered under one is not necessarily true for all. Be sure to read your policy carefully and do not be afraid to ask questions of your agent or adjuster. If you do not agree with their interpretation of the policy, do not hesitate to call us at 337-436-6611.
Our office is open and ready to help!
With today’s rain, it is important to make sure you are mitigating your damage by covering any openings to your home to decrease water intrusion to the extent you are able.
Also, as more time passes, you will likely see more damage that you missed the first time(s) around. Keep documenting with photographs and keep providing them to your adjuster. Maintain a log of your own showing your communication with your insurance company.
You do not have to face the aftermath of Hurricanes Laura and Delta alone. The insurance companies have professionals on their side - you deserve professionals on your side. Call us today and let's rebuild Lake Charles together. #SWLAStrong #coxlawfirm

Should you make a new claim for Delta?
We have been asked this question many times and the answer is - it depends.
If the damage you suffered from Delta was a continuation of the damage you suffered from Laura or was caused by your Laura damage (Example: more water got into your home during Delta because your roof was damaged in Laura) then the damage should be considered a continuation of your Laura claim. Document the additional damage and submit it to your adjuster.
On the other hand, if you had already made repairs and Delta re-damaged something (Example: you put a new fence up after Laura and Delta knocked it down) OR you have a completely new item of damage (Example: a projectile from Delta's winds broke a window that was not broken during Laura) then you need to make a new claim for Delta and identify only those new damages.
This is a difficult time and this process raises many complicated questions. Remember that we have a team with local experience handling first party insurance claims who is eager to help rebuild Lake Charles.

EARLY VOTING STARTS TOMORROW!
While it may be the last thing on some people's minds (understandably) - it is more important than ever that we get out to vote. The presidential election is NOT the only thing on the ballot - there are NUMEROUS, IMPORTANT local elections, including several judicial elections that will impact our community directly. These are some of the very people who will ultimately decide, among many other things, whether the insurance companies were fair to homeowners in SWLA.
