Starting Monday (tomorrow) after 4:00 p.m., Wichita gains a new hotpot location at Crafted Wichita. Crafted is serving it as an individual dish, with a mix and match style of broth and ingredients. It will be available every day of the week, 4pm to close.
First you pick your Ingredients, which include Vegetarian, Beef, Seafood, or combo thereof. You then pick between Miso, Shoyu and hot Mongolian broth, but any of them can be made spicy as well. Regardless of which combination of ingredients and broth you choose, each of them come with udon noodles, bok choy, enoki mushrooms, and Napa cabbage.
One awesome thing about hotpot is it's always fresh, no matter where you go. For Crafted, they bring out the raw ingredients in bowls with a pot of Sterno below it. They then add the broth to the bowl, and light the Sterno. You wait about 5-10 minutes, and then chow down.
For this weather, we chose to go with the beef and a spicy Mongolian broth. We also had seafood hotpot last night at home, so we figured the beef would be a nice counter balance. And it certainly did not let us down, out of everything in this amazing bowl, the beef was a standout feature. It was super tender and full of flavour and was the first ingredient we finished.
We were invited to try out this dish with other food bloggers, and everyone else loved their bowls as well. By the time we left, there wasn't any leftovers to be seen. We also nabbed some Dole whip, which is very light on the tongue, and tastes like real pineapple, while being dairy free!
If you've never had hotpot before, I know it can sound pretty daunting, but this is definitely something that you need to try.
Crafted makes the experience super streamlined without losing any of the freshness and quality that you expect. We love their drink selection, and will be coming back even more for their food menu now.
