Dr. Peter L. Mattei is a specialist in a procedure called Mohs Surgery. Mohs surgery is a very effective treatment for certain skin cancers. The Mohs procedure removes tissue layer by layer. Dr. Mattei examines each layer microscopically to ensure the skin cancer is completely removed and has performed the procedure thousands of times. Dr. Mattei is fellowship trained in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology and is part of the American College of Mohs Surgeons. He has also completed a Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship through the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. He completed his dermatology residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and is a board certified dermatologist. Before coming to Johns Hopkins, he conducted dermatology clinical trials research as a fellow at The Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Mattei is a proud veteran and served on active duty as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He graduated from The College of William and Mary and Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Mattei, has authored several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the field of dermatology and dermatologic surgery.
