Aurora made quite the splash as she entered the water for the first time at Master Boat Builders on the Alabama coast. She is the shallow-draft tug that will be paired with a 55,000-barrel fuel barge to make up Crowley Fuels’ newest articulated tug-barge (ATB). Once construction is completed, the ATB will head to Alaska with a mission of delivering clean fuel products in the Western part of the state. The ATB, designed by company subsidiary Jensen Maritime, will be able to operate in ice and temperature conditions common during the Alaska winters. It will have a range of 4,300 miles and be able to access most locations in Alaska, including those in waters as shallow as 9 feet. https://crow.ly/3llU6Xx

This is American Commercial Barge Line's M/V Michael G Morris flanking the vicksburg bridge with 25 barges. This is considered the safest method of making the bridge. This vessel can tow up to 40 barges southbound but not in these hazardous river conditions. The USCG has to enforce minimum horsepower per barge requirements in order to reduce crashes.
This specific tow is the equivalent of 2400 18 wheelers, 1,399,992 bushels of wheat, if all wheat could make 60 million loafs of bread, or hold 27, 720,000 gallons of gasoline / ect. The max tow, that i am ever aware of this vessel handling is 40 loaded barges. That is equivalent to a 7.2 mile long train or 4000 18 wheelers. It can hold 47,300,000 gallons of chemicals or if wheat make 100 million loaves of bread.
