For 35 years, Cumberland chapels has been a constant in our community, open 7 days a week, our staff working around the clock to serve our family, friends and neighbors. We have always been a place open to everyone, giving those in our community experiencing sadness and loss a place to come together.
However, we find ourselves at a challenging time in our society and we all need to work together as we so often do to protect one another. Upon recommendations from the State of Illinois, Village of Norridge, the Illinois Funeral Directors Association as well as the National Funeral Directors Association, we will be closing down our reception lounge in the basement. We can’t allow any outside food or beverages at this time until further notice. We also ask that visitors suspend our normal practices of paying condolences, refraining from hugging, kissing and touching as much as possible. If you or someone in your home is sick, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND SERVICES. I know this is difficult, but the worst thing we can do for a family already experiencing suffering is spread this illness. Send a card, leave a message on our online condolence page, make a phone call, use face time. But please use extreme caution in evaluating your own health and the health of others.
If you’re well, we welcome you, but ask respectfully that you use common sense. Refrain from touching as much as possible and only stay a reasonable time so that we don’t increase our crowd numbers to an unsafe level.
On our end, we will continue to do our part. We will continue to implement our best practices according to the CDC and OSHA as we always have. We have been in communication with the various organizations listed above to make sure we are following all established protocols and any new mandates. We have been assured at this time that we can still hold open casket viewings. At the same time, we will try our best to stagger services in order to limit the crowd size. As per CDC recommendations, we will try to limit visitors to less than 50. We ask for your cooperation in this, limiting your visit to as short a time as possible.
Most importantly, we at Cumberland Chapels Funeral Home will continue to provide a place of respite, a place for our community to come together to mourn, to celebrate, to laugh and cry, to help one another get through life’s most difficult times. We ask for your patience and understanding. As always, we appreciate your trust as we navigate this health emergency together and we ask that you help us keep our community safe.
