At a time when the only certainty was uncertainty, Girl Scouts adjusted and adapted multiple times to meet the needs of girls, providing opportunities wherever possible, whether remote or socially distanced. Day-by-day, month-by-month, Girl Scouts played an essential part in helping girls navigate through the pandemic and adapt to a new normal. With a strong focus on fostering personal well-being and healthy relationships, developing skills in finance and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), and giving back to the community, Girl Scouts has never been better positioned to develop future leaders.

Volunteering with Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore helps provide mentorship and prepares girls for a lifetime of leadership.
Volunteers introduce girls to new experiences that show them they're capable of more than they ever imagined. This year, Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore celebrated 24 remarkable Girl Scouts who earned the Girl Scout Gold Award. They took on a variety of challenges, like protecting our Shore environment, delivering relief to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico and sparking interest in STEM among local children. We could not be prouder of their accomplishments, especially during a global health crisis that shuttered schools, canceled events, and paused in-person Girl Scout activities.
These Gold Award Girl Scouts achieved the pinnacle of the Girl Scout leadership experience, completing "take action" projects that made a lasting and meaningful change here in New Jersey and our greater community.

Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore's core program is the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, where girls get to choose the hands-on activities that interest them the most.
The program is designed to build skills in four key areas:

Charity Spotlight: Since 1969 Monmouth Day Care Center has been dedicated to the idea that all children have a right to quality education regardless of race, religion or socio-economic background.
The center serves children ranging in age from 2 months to 5 years from over 25 local communities and has expanded its services to include an on site food pantry.

When COVID-19 hit The Arc of Monmouth's Direct Support Professionals had to adapt quickly. The Arc closed many of their programs in mid-March to protect participants as many have underlying health conditions and are especially vulnerable to the coronavirus pandemic. Day program staff quickly transitioned into group homes to provide engaging activities and a sense of normalcy through routines. Their staff have gone above and beyond, especially at the height of the pandemic in New Jersey, working extra hours and overcoming every challenge thrown their way. From giving haircuts at home to throwing indoor carnivals and patio paint-and-sips, these dedicated DSPs do everything they can to make sure residents are happy and have what they need.

Several years ago Monmouth Day Care Center staff noticed a child coming into their class hungry each day. It was discovered that the family simply did not have enough money to keep food on the table and refused help when offered. This led to the opening of the MDCC Food Pantry.
The food pantry is traditionally open to anyone who walks through MDCC’s doors, including visitors, extended family members and more. While the pantry is currently closed due to COVID-19, the MDCC team looks forward to serving the community again soon.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, donations of non-perishable food items are not being accepted at this time.
