Service dogs cheer up Oregon firefighters working on the Thielsen Fire north of Crater Lake -- photos: Inciweb
A few days ago, some adorable dogs showed up to boost morale for firefighters working on the nearly 10,000-acre Thielsen Fire in southwest Oregon.
The fire started Sept. 8 in the Mount Thielsen Wilderness, burning through sections of the Pacific Crest Trail and within a mile of Diamond Lake.
Since then, firefighters have worked relentlessly to control the blaze, which is now 69% contained.
There are still 385 firefighters working the Thielsen Fire and managers expect the blaze to be fully contained this week.
As far as the service dogs, no need to worry about them. Other than licking some firefighters, they were kept well out of harm’s way, according to Inciweb.
There are still 12 large fires burning approximately 980,000 acres in Oregon and Washington -- get the latest in this roundup 🔥➡ https://bit.ly/341nyLY

Thank you Firefighters for everything you continue to do for our community and state, and for the long hours asked of you. Thank you, thank you.
Hope you all had a GREAT HALLOWEEN WEEKEND! 🎃We had some Halloween Spirit going on at the dealership in the form of a 'Creative Pumpkin Contest' and 'A Friendly Neighborhood Spida-Rick' showed up to help out in our Parts Department on Halloween. 🧡😆🕸
What a ✨SPECIAL DAY✨ today was for all of us at the dealership to be apart of the magic that Make-A-Wish Oregon does for kids like Dalton!
With us today was Make A Wish Volunteers: Lindsey, Erin, Sarah & Family: Lisa, Casey, Aiden, Morgan, Kaitlyn, Grandpa, and good friends. There is a lot of support and outpouring of love ❤️ from this lovely community of good people.. Dalton is a blessed young man. 🥰
Medical challenges prevented Dalton from fully experiencing the outdoors or camping (which he loves very much); without access to power for medical equipment/facilities and some attempts to stay overnight had been rocky. Now this RV will allow the whole family the ability to travel together, maybe even across states someday!
Dalton & Family, we wish you many many campfires, memories, and smiles together, Happy Camping!

Fall is known as the season for nature’s colors, but what if you could see magnificent oranges, bright yellows and fluorescent greens all year long
One place you can is on public lands in central and eastern Oregon.
Far from the black and white of old cowboy movies filmed in the area decades ago, a multitude of colors – including autumn’s reds, oranges and yellows – abounds perennially in Oregon’s high desert, compliments of unlikely hosts.
At closer glance, those monstrous, jagged, fault scarps and rocky remnants from ancient volcanoes and shifts of tectonic plates – the outcroppings and rims that give the area its rugged, desolate look – are far from barren of bright color.
Same with the dead limbs and decaying trunks of evergreen juniper and pine trees. Even the wooden fence posts studding the range harbor flamboyant life.
What’s the source of this perennial high desert Technicolor? Lichens – some of nature’s most unusual creatures.
