“How do I know when to change my HVAC filter?” It’s a common question. Your HVAC system can’t talk, it can’t tell you that the filter is dirty, so how are you supposed to know? Here are the most standard telling signs that your filter needs to be cleaned or replaced: 1. The air isn’t as cold 2. Your electricity bill went up 3. You notice yourself sneezing and/or coughing more when at home 4. Dust has been accumulating faster on furniture All of these fall under the same problem: your HVAC system is working harder than it should be. A dirty filter makes it harder for air to be distributed, easier for dirt and dust to collect in your home, and more costly to operate the HVAC. In most cases, you won’t know to change the filter until it gets so dirty that it starts to affect performance. Not very HVAC-inclined? Text or call us. Can’t remember the last time you changed your filter? Let us know. The best way to make sure your system is cleaned and maintained properly is to call in the professionals. You take your car to the mechanic every few months for an oil change - bi-annual preventative maintenance with Custom Climates is the same. We are not just cleaning your HVAC system… we are preventing future problems (or disasters 😰) by maintaining it! Okay guys, we know what ice machines are supposed to be used for. But it was so hot the other day Wesley couldn’t resist hopping in for just a few minutes! How many of you feel like you could benefit from having an ice machine... to make ice, or something... just like Wesley? 😉 Comment below some creative ways you’re staying cool this summer, or suggestions of ways for others to #staycool
What do you guys have the thermostat set to today? 71 over here at the office. Don’t let the heat fool you though. Your boiler still needs some love. Remember when you needed heat in January and your boiler was there for you? Return the favor and give it an upgrade so it doesn’t have to work so hard this winter. Rinnai combination boilers are a great idea if you’re looking for something more efficient & cost-effective to replace your existing boiler/hot water tank combo. It’s also a good idea if you’re looking to free up some space for more miscellaneous junk boxes in the basement. 😉 Check out this before and after of one of our recent Rinnai combination boiler installs. Even if you’re not very familiar with HVAC systems, you can probably tell it looks much better. If your boiler setup looks something like the before picture, give us a call. We’ll help you get prepared for the cold weather early. Save yourself the hassle and give yourself peace of mind – don’t wait until you lose heat when you really need it. 📞 (603) 262-1623 🔗 www.customclimates.com

As temperatures start to climb here on the east coast, it’s worth remembering how we developed the technology to control the climate in our homes. In 1902, Willis Carrier invented the first contemporary air conditioner that used large fans and coils to circulate coolant to control humidity in his building. In addition to humidity control, the “apparatus for treating air” controlled temperature, air circulation, ventilation, and indoor air quality. These components have become essential for most HVAC systems today. Soon after the first residential A/C installation in 1914, the air conditioner debuted at the Rivoli Theater in Times Square in 1922 – welcome the summer blockbusters! In 1931, J.Q. Sherman and H.H. Schultz invented the first window-ledge A/C unit, also known as a window shaker, because very few consumers could afford the systems being used by movie theaters and businesses. Following World War ll, a growing economy caused a demand for residential air conditioning. Within 5 years, over 1 million units were being sold annually! Toshiba invented the first inverter-type compressor in 1980, which increased efficiency by up to 30%. Instead of switching the system on and off, inverter technology keeps your compressor running for longer periods of time at lower speeds, which saves energy. In 1981, they released the first residential A/C that used this technology. While there haven’t been major improvements to our HVAC systems in recent years, we’re taking some really important strides in improving energy efficiency. Most consumers now have several energy-saving options, such as geothermal, hybrid, and zoned systems. Energy efficiency is becoming more of a priority as consumers hope to reduce their carbon footprint. To learn more about the latest and greatest in HVAC systems, call Custom Climates and get in touch with our design development advisor. With all the energy efficiency improvements in the last decade, you’re likely wasting energy (and money!) if your system is 10 years old or older. We will walk through the process together, from system design to installation closeout. 📞 (603) 262-1623 🔗 www.customclimates.com
Which of the following heating systems do you think uses the most energy? a. gas furnace b. ductless mini split c. oil boiler d. electric furnace Comment your answer, and if you get it right we will take 15% off your next preventative maintenance visit with Custom Climates! We'll post the answer on our page tomorrow, so make sure you check back here tomorrow to see if you won 😋
Which system did you say uses the most energy? See if you got the right answer below... A: The electric furnace! Gas is usually the most efficient fuel source, and furnaces generally are going to be less efficient because heating via water is easier than heating via air. An electric furnace will usually cost you less for the unit upfront, but electricity is a much more expensive fuel source than gas and you will likely spend more long-term than you would operating a gas furnace. At the end of the day though friends, a Mitsubishi ductless mini split will be, on average, about 40% more efficient than a conventional AC system and be half as expensive as a gas or oil heating system. Read more about energy efficiency and reducing your carbon footprint on our website: https://www.customclimates.com/mitsubishi-electric-heat-pumps/ Call or text us if your furnace or boiler has been begging you for an upgrade. There have been a lot of exciting new improvements being made to HVAC equipment in the past decade. We’ll give you the ability to make an informed decision and will work with you to help you determine what the best solution for YOU is! 📞 (603) 262-1623 CUSTOMCLIMATES.COM Mitsubishi Electric Heating and Cooling

Whoever has the oldest heating system that’s still keeping them warm will get a 15% discount on a preventative maintenance cleaning & system check. Feel free to share how you’ve kept it going this long, too – do you change the filters regularly? Have a pro clean it every year and check for potential future failures? Had a programmable thermostat installed to limit unnecessary operation? Share your secrets! We will announce the winner next Wednesday 12/23, so make sure to post your pictures by Tuesday.
