Decided to wake up the neighborhood today on Paulinskill Road, Hardwick Township, Warren County, N.J. ;-) This well is to replace a shallow low-yielding well currently in use. The set up was a little tricky but eventually got her where she needed to be. We're down 198' in a slate rock and unfortunately, not a trace of water yet. This weekend will be paperwork catch up time / run the roads for appointments on future work. Monday we'll be back at this one. Everyone enjoy your weekend, supposed to be a nice one !! :-)
Beautiful day to be out on first day of Fall ! New domestic water well installed in Hardwick Township, Warren County, N.J. In an area notorious for its fair-share of deep wells, this one ended up not so bad. 298' deep, 60' of 6" Canadian threaded & coupled steel casing, 10-12 G.P.M. Tomorrow moving on to the next one right near by on Paulinskill Road which will be a domestic-replacement water well.
Wells were often the center of a community; places where people came to meet and exchange news. Even today, in developing countries, community water wells are important places not only for obtaining water, but also seeing friends and obtaining local news and information.
You may already know the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates water reserves in the U.S. Is the EPA also responsible for monitoring private well water? If you guessed no, you're right.
New 6" domestic / agricultural/horticultural/irrigation well being installed on Calais Road, Mendham Township, Morris County, N.J. This one we had to 10" mud roller drill the pilot hole down to 118 feet due to the depth of the overlying heavy clays. 120' of 6" casing set and grouted into granite rock. Down 425' by end of today with 10 GPM. Tomorrow looking for a bit more water, maximum depth set at 600 feet. Heading up to Hardwick Township in Warren County next to install a domestic-new and a domestic-replacement.
Did you know that well water is better for you than chemically filtered water is? This is because it gives your body all the benefits of water without any additional chemicals that could pose health risks.
Although most towns provide residents with clean and safe drinking water, homeowners with personal wells are better equipped in case of an emergency as they are not reliant on this communal source of water.
Some water well drilling this week right on the shore of Budd Lake in Mount Olive Township, N.J. Cramped quarters but managed to fit everything in. 10" mud-roller drilled pilot hole to 99' then drill & drive from that point forward. Will probably end up with 180 to 200 feet + of 6" casing going into the ground due to the depth of sand, clays & gravels. Will search out a pure gravel water-bearing zone for a clean yield.
Did you know that drilled wells are the most sophisticated type of water well? The two main methods used to create these are simple hand-drilling methods or machine drilling.
If you are considering installing a well, some well owners question how to know if their water is safe. It is recommended that you have your water tested annually by the local health department or independent testing laboratory.
Sealed a few abandoned wells today in Mount Olive Township, Morris County, N.J. Brought out the hydraulic "deep-hole" sealing spool to take care of this 300-footer shown. Later, we sealed 2 abandoned point wells right along side Budd Lake at a demolition site. Same site we will be moving the drill rig to on Monday (weather permitting) to begin installation of a new 6" Public Non-Community well.
Figured we'd take a ride up to Fairview Lake today in Stillwater Township, Sussex County, N.J. Set up and began 10" roller mud drilling the 10" pilot hole. Down 80' feet now, have another 70 feet to go due to the required 150' of 6" casing that has to go in. Minimum distance requirement of 150' from a cesspool could not be met. Currently in a marbled limestone now. Beautiful country, beautiful weather to drill. We'll be back at it Monday !
Here's a domestic-deepening job we finished yesterday in Mount Olive Township (Morris County) on Cheri Road. We arrived in the morning, pulled the pump from the 68' deep well, set the rig up over the well, and took her down to 223' with final yield approx. 10 G.P.M. at the end of the day. Homeowner happy, drill crew happy, even the dog was happy :-) The water table has dropped in this area, heard stories of many struggling with their now under-performing well :-(
We've been on the busy side last few weeks between drilling of new water wells and sealing of abandoned drilled wells and point wells thus I haven't had the evening energy to post like I usually do :-/ My apologies! Here is one we finished in Columbia (Knowlton Township, Warren County, N.J.) on Monday, not too far from the Delaware River. 10" roller mud drilled the pilot hole to 110 feet then installed 112 feet of 6" casing. Final depth ended up being 347 feet with 8-10 GPM. There's an existing well literally 20 yards away that's 700' deep with 1 G.P.M. Sometimes it's good to be lucky ;-)
Did you know that in most cases, once a well is drilled, you can no longer perform any development on that site? This is why it is so important to understand city, county, and state (and federal when they apply) codes and regulations before you hire a well drilling company.
With rotary drilling, the drill bit (made of tough metals such as tungsten) is attached to a length of connected drill pipe. As the drill is rotated, the ground up rock is flushed upward and out of the hole by circulating a drilling fluid down through the drill pipe and back to the surface.
The world’s tallest water sphere is located in Union, New Jersey. This sphere is 212 feet tall and holds 250,000 gallons of well water.
Water wells should be visually inspected by their owners on a regular schedule. Can you name three well features that should be checked for wear or damage? If you guessed the: cap, casing and electrical conduit (where applicable), you're right.
The top part of a water well is usually lined with plastic or steel well casing, with the space between (known as the "annulus" being filled with grout to prevent polluted surface water from migrating downward and contaminating the aquifer.
It can be easy to think that water wells are a thing of the past, especially if you’ve lived in a city your whole life, but you might be surprised. In fact, over 15 million households in the US use a private well for water.
Do you love the refreshing taste of well water? If so, you're not alone. According to studies, most people would rather have their own wells.
There are actually three basic types of water wells, and all have to do with the way they're created. Can you name the three different techniques? If you guessed: drilling, driving and digging, you're right.
Water is typically extracted from a well by a pump (such as an electric submersible pump, mechanical pump, or hand pump). For some wells, the water is drawn up manually using buckets or other containers.
