Welcome Back DCDS!
Fall into the Season of Dance!! 🍁
Ballroom dancing began in Europe in the 16th century. By the late 18th century, dances such as the waltz were being danced by the upper classes at balls and parties. It was more than 100 years before the dances began to spread among the working classes.
George Balanchine and costume designer Barbara Karinska simplified the classical tutu, removing some layers and the stiff wire, creating a new dance skirt that would suit Balanchine’s need to have many dancers on stage at once.
The Cuban motion is a distinctive hip movement that is a very important element of the rumba. The intensity of the rumba is also increased by the distinctive eye contact that is maintained between the male and female dancing partners.

It’s important to remember that ballroom dancing is a more intense exercise than most people imagine. If you’re suffering from sore muscles after your lessons, remember to drink plenty of water and get extra sleep to give your muscles the ability to recover.
Modern dance costumes are designed to be beautiful while still being light and easy to move in, but it wasn’t always that way. Early ballet dancers had to perform in masks and heavy costumes, which is why a lot of the more elaborate footwork came later.
October just flew by as fast as witches on their brooms!🔮 We got to chassé on brooms, leap over pumpkins, and dress up every dance class day!👻 Last weekend we also hosted our very first Trunk or Treat—a special thank you to all who participated and came to visit, leaving with bellies full of candy and hearts full of spooky good times!
Halloween is always one of our favorites to celebrate all month so we wanted to share some highlights that bring smiles to our faces! 🎃
We would LOVE to have him!!!!!

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl: ‘I want to become a really wicked tap dancer’
Did you know that Latin dances are known around the world for being flamboyant? Traditionally, Latin dancers wear colorful costumes with lots of frills and ruffles that add to the illusion of grace and flexibility while on the dance floor.
Check out these dancers and what they’ve learned all weekend long! We are so proud of these dancers for encouraging others, challenging themselves, and inspire our team. 💙

Although this weekend would have been our first competition of the season for our DCDS 2020-2021 Competition Team, the opportunity to grow as a team in our own safe place called home is what continues to be a constant light through these times. We are so grateful to have the space in our studio for hosting our own DCDS Intensive! We are so proud of our dancers for dancing their hearts out all weekend, and feel so lucky that we could have such a great event while focusing on the health and safety of our choreographers and dancers!⭐️
HUGE shoutout to the following guests that we had the pleasure of having in and who inspired our developing dancers: Geoffrey Alexander, Gavin King, Emily Vigna, Lukky Harvey. #whatwhatyeah 🖤
