We are loving the color of this Love Note by Tin Can Knits, available on Ravelry! Jillian (shown with her beautiful daughter) used Anzula Squishy and Shibui Silk Cloud held together. The sweater is knit from the top down, is light as a feather, and very soft! We have paired Spring Thing, a simple asymmetrical shawlette by Espace Tricot, together with Balayage fingering weight yarn by Pascuali. Balayage is a fingering weight yarn of 190 yards, made of 80% baby alpaca and 20% virgin wool, organic merino in extra-fine 21.5 micron, Designer Melanie Berg actually helped develop the beautiful colors. How is this for inspiration. Susan is pictured in her Simple Hug Cardi by Cozy Up Knits, available on Ravelry. It features a simple bottom up construction and is knit in such a way that you can use as many or few colors as you want. DK weight yarn is held together with mohair to produce a drapey, soft fabric that feels like a hug! Susan used a single color gray mohair to hold together throughout with the colors she chose.

Due to a COVID-19 exposure, we are operating on a modified, zero contact basis this week. From Jan 5-8 our hours will be 11 am - 3 pm. Our doors will be closed for any in-person activities. You can shop via our website, over the phone, or schedule a virtual shopping appointment via Zoom (see links in our bio). We'll be shipping orders as usual and we will have zero contact order pickup as well. Call when you arrive and your order will be placed on a table outside the door for you to retrieve. We can wind yarn as always, just call when you arrive, place your yarn on the table outside the door, and we'll wind and return it to the table. The staff member will be masked as always, but we will also be wearing gloves while handling any customer orders. Because only one staff member will be present we may have to ask you to return later for your yarn if you need more than 1 or 2 skeins wound. This shawl stands out with a big bouquet colorful tulips.
Bukett is an asymmetrical shawl knit sideways from one tip. The bouquet is shaped with short-rows, and the entire shawl is knit in garter stitch with increases and slipped stitches.

Mary Scott's newest creation is Fading Point by Joji Locatelli, available on Ravelry. Fading Point is constructed from both ends towards the center, and then both pieces are connected with triangles to achieve a seamless rectangle. There are sections where two colors are blended together and then sections with lace.
Mary Scott chose to use a gradient Advent kit, but look through some of your stash of fingering yarns to choose colors and then let us round out the palette with some of our newest inventory of beautiful fingering weight yarns. You will need 5 skeins that go from dark to light, a total of 2000 yards.

We love our beginner knitters! Natasha came in to show off her first shawl. This is Claire's Outlander Shawl. The shawl is all garter, with an increase stitch of knit into the front and the back. A great beginner project! We photographed the shawl using a Clothezure shawl ornament.

Have you heard of the netting stitch? It is a knitting pattern that creates a beautiful textured mesh fabric. You can find it easily by searching "netting stitch" in your browser. The pattern is easy to knit in a four row repeat.
Sonja is a yoga instructor and wanted something warm around her neck in the studio. She cast on 15 stitches and used the netting stitch to create the mesh fabric to her desired length and joined the ends. Sonja's version is long enough to wear doubled around her neck. She held a fingering yarn together with Spincycle Dyed in the Wool to create a unique fabric.

This semi-circular shawl has Christmas trees radiating from a star, with lace motifs. It is knitted from the top center back and outwards. The instructions are provided for three sizes, a shawlette, a medium shawl, and a large shawl. The instructions provide written or charted directions. You may choose beads or no beads.

No denying it. Colorwork is everywhere! One way to search for a colorwork project is to use filters on your Ravelry search. Use the "patterns" tab and type "sweaters" or "shawls", or "cowls", etc. in the search box. Using the filters, under attributes, you can choose colorwork and further filter results based on the type of colorwork you want to do...mosaic, stranded, intarsia, etc. You will find that filters on Ravelry are your friends!

We are dedicating one Saturday a month to give back to our community. This Saturday, 10% of sales will go to the Chesterfield Food Bank.
Currently 30,000 people in our community are relying on this organization to provide meals each month. With multiple distribution sites around the county, the need is great.

When you walk into our shop you see our brick and mortar goods. What you don't see now in the time of COVID, is our community. And boy, do we miss that! From our customers and vendors who gather for shows, to our retreats complete with meals and massages, to our gatherings at the local brewery, to our romance yarn authors and book signing events. We can't wait to get back to bringing our special and beloved community of fiber enthusiasts together again. Zoom is just not the same. We miss the connection and the energy.

Here is Mary Kay in her Alaska by Camille Descoteaux available on Ravelry. This has been a popular hat in the shop this winter! She used Spincycle's Dyed in the Wool and fingering weight yarn to give that illusion of moonlight on bare trees. She topped it off with an Ikaigai faux pom. ❤️

This new yarn is now GOTS-certified organic! This means that the yarn is processed with environmentally friendly practices to make sure it’s still machine-washable and as soft and vibrant as ever. This year’s KAL, the Evenstar Shawl by Susan Pandorf is getting ready to kick off next week. This is such a great pattern! Exploration Station by Stephen West, available on Ravelry, keeps you interested from beginning to end! This is Maureen in her latest FO. It was her first time with brioche, and this pattern gives you the opportunity to bite off a small chunk making it a good first two-color brioche project.
This top down semi-circle shawl begins with shortcut rows and yarn overs followed by two-color brioche ribbing, slipped stitches, stripes, and finally a beautiful chevron border. The pattern calls for four colors of fingering weight yarn and it also provides a link to a video tutorial by Stephen West on how to do the two color brioche.
Totally wearable with jeans or your dressiest ensemble! Pop it with a great shawl pin for added flair.

Terra Maris is an easy-breezy lace shawl, about land and sea, and everything else that lies in between.
Garter stitch for sand. Various lace for the ever-changing sea. Slip stitch for little shells, corals, and pieces of polished glass that every wave brings to the shore just for a little while and takes it back again. Everything in this shawl is designed to be simple, relaxing, yet entertaining. And it knits up very quickly.
The shawl is featured using approximately 40 grams of 7 colors. Go through project leftovers and stash dive! Bring those skeins or leftovers in and let us help you complement those colors to complete the palette...one of our favorite things to do!

"Please Join Me" is a beautiful shawl by Debra Gerhard available on Ravelry. Mary Scott is wearing her version featuring two skeins of fingering weight yarn...a solid and a speckle.
The pattern is an asymmetrical, triangular shawl consisting of a smidge of garter stitch and a picot stripe. Use two high contrast yarns for the biggest effect, or think about mini skeins or a fade kit. Many options are featured on the Ravelry page. Only one color is worked per row, so it is easy to use the pattern as blank slate to create your own palette of color.

You saw it on our last podcast with a few rows to go, but this is Debbie's finished Your Slip is Showing by Casapinka, available on Ravelry.
It is a boomerang shaped shawl, which is meditative to knit as it flows from one color combination to the next in twelve different sections. It uses four different colors of yarn and lends itself well to speckles, tonals or variegated colors, fade sets, or gradient colors.
Two of my colors are very close, but you can choose whether to go for high or low contrast, and the result will be beautiful! I used Dragonfly Fibers Pixie that I purchased at a trunk show we hosted a few years ago.
This was a meditative knit...lots of repetition and only one color per row. Great for TV knitting! I highly recommend this one!

This is our first look at a finished Powder Wrap Shawl by Casapinka, available on Ravelry, and we're smitten! The shawl is an asymmetric triangle that is a large, mesmerizing wrap to knit. The three sections repeat throughout until the last part where you do some increases and work cables.
This is a worsted weight shawl, and Conway wanted to stay true to the suggested yarn. She chose Blue Sky Woolstok, a rustic, non-superwash highland wool to produce the right amount of warmth and squish. We popped it with a ClotheZure shawl closure. Just beautiful!

This sweater features a flattering drape, a slightly oversized fit, and a simple design with a twist. The size inclusive pattern features many options and is knit sideways from the center out. You have the option to choose 7 circumferences, 7 lengths, 3 neckline options, and even sleeve circumference and length.

This one has been a shop favorite! This is The Blurry Cowl by Joji Locatelli, available on Ravelry.
The cowl is both easy to make and easy to wear. It’s designed to resemble a triangular shawl wrapped around your neck… but it’s not. Just slip it over your head and you are ready to go. Laurel did this one in one skein of DK and a skein of Dyed in the Wool by Spincycle.
The cowl is a great instant gratification project!
